  • Generation Z and Key-Factors on E-Commerce: A Study on the Portuguese Tourism Sector
Publication . Vieira, Jorge; Frade, Rui; Ascenso, Raquel; Prates, Inês; Martinho, Filipa
In recent years, tourism has experienced remarkable growth worldwide. This sector is rapidly becoming the main export activity and the most important source of GDP growth in several countries. In Portugal, it represented around 19.7% of exports in 2019. The internet and online platforms contributed decisively to this growth. Generation Z already represents a considerable portion of society and, in the coming years, will become the central consumer segment. With this research, we intend to identify the key factors in the decision to purchase online, in Generation Z individuals, in the Portuguese tourism sector. We carried out a characterization of the sector, a bibliographic review and the identification of key variables. We applied a structured questionnaire to a sample of 233 individuals aged between 10 and 25 years. Subsequently, the data were processed using descriptive methodologies and association tests between variables. The key factors in the decision to purchase tourism products/services in Generation Z are Trust, Price, the use of aggregating websites, WOM/EWOM, the Offer of products/services online and the Online experience. In the opposite direction, it was given less importance to Convenience, Reviews on tourism websites, Tourism Advertising, Social networking and the possibility of Canceling the reservation. This study allows us to establish the bases for future research, to help researchers to understand Generation Z consumption habits.

  • Determinants of Internationalization as Levers for Sustainability: A Study of the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Sector
Publication . Vieira, Jorge; Frade, Rui; Ascenso, Raquel; Martinho, Filipa; Martinho, Domingos
The pharmaceutical industry is facing the pressure of a global economy, loss of value in local markets and the highly intense innovation that characterizes this sector. This has a heavy impact, particularly in smaller economies. With this investigation, we intend to identify the determinants of internationalization as levers for sustainability in the pharmaceutical export sector of a small economy. Data was collected from a sample representing 63% of the total universe, Portuguese pharmaceutical organizations with exporting activity. A contextualization of the sector and a bibliographic review were previously carried out, which laid the groundwork for the empirical framework. This study revealed a deeply internationalized sector conditioned by a few shortcomings, namely a certain lack of sustainable competitive advantages, relatively low investment in research and development (R&D), insufficient innovation in internationalization strategies as well as scarce institutional support. Our findings may help pave the way for a more complete understanding of the dynamics of internationalization in highly competitive sectors.
  • Statistical Modeling of Affluence to the Emergency Service of HESE
    Publication . Ascenso, Raquel
The demand for emergency services in hospitals is a global problem affecting health professionals and users. This overcrowding is associated with several factors, including reduced access to other medical emergency or primary care services, and has led to delays in the care of urgent patients. Hospital do Esp´ırito Santo de Evora, EPE (HESE) is the largest and main hospital unit in ´ Alentejo, the one that offers greater differentiation and, in addition to receiving patients from Central Alentejo, treats more and more patients from Alto Alen tejo, Baixo Alentejo and Alentejo Litoral. In this work, based on generalized linear models and control charts, we analyze the inflow of users to the emer gency service, seeking to provide support for decision making by the service management team.
  • Thermal symmetry - Is it a good indicator?
Publication . Ricardo Vardasca, PhD, ASIS, FRPS; Ascenso, Raquel
The diagnostic of pathological states using thermal images rely in quantitative simple indicators such as thermal symmetry values. It is aim of this research to investigate whether the thermal symmetry definition is enough to discriminate between healthy and pathological states and overlook other statistical methods in that task. Four images of ankles (1 healthy and 3 pathological) were used as data, 2 ROI were analysed. This research proves that the use of thermal symmetry is a poor indicator, boxplot charts and asymmetry coefficients add useful information that must be considered but are insufficient. Further research is required to overcome this.
  • TAXONOMIA DA GESTÃO DE RISCOS OCUPACIONAIS
Publication . Nogueira, Nuno; Veiga, Rui; Cadete Pires, Cristina Maria Paulo; Ascenso, Raquel; Ribeiro, António; Ferreira, Prof. Doutor Luis
Publication . Cadete Pires, Cristina Maria Paulo; Ascenso, Raquel; Ribeiro, António; Ferreira, Pedro NP; Nogueira, Nuno; Veiga, Rui
A comunicação de risco é um método de troca de informações e de influência de tomada de decisões, que suscita mudança de comportamentos. Este estudo incidiu sobre o contexto de pandemia COVID-19, com enfoque na avaliação da perceção de risco.
  • The profile of the hyper user in an Emergency Department
    Publication . Ascenso, Raquel
Characterizing the profile of frequent users of an emergency service is essential for the definition of health management policies, looking for an efficient meeting of patients’ needs and offering a better quality of services to users of the National Health Service. Therefore, it is reasonable that several research studies de veloped in this area focus on the very frequent users of hospital emergency services, usually referred to as hyper users. Their definition varies according to the studies, but in general, a hype user is a patient with 4 or more visits to the emergency department per year. This study analyzes the inflow of users to the emergency de partment of the Hospital do Esp´ırito Santo de Evora (HESE), by type of user, in a ´ period between January 2018 and May 2021. Based on Generalized Linear Models (GLM) and Generalized Additive Models (GAM) it is attempted to identify some factors that allow to outline the profile of the hyper user of the HESE emergency service. The results obtained with several models are compared and some consid erations are made about the modelling limitations taking into account the type of data and the context of the collection period. The profile of a frequent user of the HESE emergency services includes the triage code indicator, the user residence, age and gender, the admission shift, the waiting time and the physician's diagnosis.

  • PERCEÇÃO DE RISCOS MECÂNICOS: CONCEITOS TÉCNICOS DE SUPORTE À IDENTIFICAÇÃO E DESCRIÇÃO DO RISCO.
Publication . A.C. Veiga, Rui; Cadete Pires, Cristina Maria Paulo; Nogueira, Nuno; Ascenso, Raquel; Doutor Luis Ferreira, Prof.; Ribeiro, António
