  • Terapias complementares nas emoções: uma perspectiva sociopoética

    The relevance of the theme using the “complementary therapies” (TC) in the management of emotions and your impact on mental health of nursing students, focuses on the realization of our professional practice, as teachers, in different types of school, in There, students of the last year of the course, feel uncomfortable, as the expression of their emotions and feelings, which leads to high levels of anxiety, anguish and panic. Aims: to identify the complementary therapies facilitators in managing emotions and evaluate your effectiveness on mental health of students. Methodology: qualitative research Paradigm, using the sociopóetica perspective. The sample consists of 42 students of the fourth year of the Degree course in nursing, perform the clinical education of Mental Health and Psychiatry. Were held “workshops” of production data. Complied with all ethical assumptions of the investigation, in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration. Results and discussion: The content analysis performed, resulting in the appointment of four “complementary therapies”: guided imagination technique, body expression, therapeutic touch and music therapy. Conclusions: importance of this research to the education in nursing is the conception of that theory and clinical experience must be accompanied by educational strategies promoting TC in the management of emotions. To stress, students highlighted the use of music therapy as an asset in the expression of emotions and commented that the TC allow you to deal with emotions and promote your mental health over your career, personal and social.
  • Poetry as a way to express emotions in mental health

    Poetic depiction of problems and complex thoughts is an innovative approach that facilitates introspective thinking and the building of self-identity. This study aimed at providing nursing students with in-depth knowledge about mental health through free poetic production. A qualitative, descriptive research approach, of sociopoetic inspiration involving 96 undergraduate nursing students, was conducted. All ethical recommendations were considered. Four categories emerged: “Hybrid emotions, feelings and sensations”; “Associations”; “Doubts and questions”; and “Reflections”. Students’ poetic writings were analysed and the results highlighted the students’ perception of the dynamics between brain and heart symbolizing reason and emotion. Poetic writing enhances creativity and fosters introspection, acting as an important facilitator of the complexity of mental health-related issues and contributing to improve therapeutic communication skills. Importantly, the search and development of new pedagogical approaches can help to deal with the emotional stressors linked to the novelty of mental health education.
  • A mentorship project: promoting emotional competence in nursing students

    INTRODUCTION. Young students’ transition to higher education is a particularly challenging and a stressful event, likely to trigger emotions that can potentially a+ect their adaptation to a new and more demanding learning environment. This issue has been a focus of growing interest for researchers involved in mentorship programmes developed by higher education institutions, which are intended to contribute to a healthy integration of students and, consequently, promote academic inclusion and success. This project intends to understand the role of mentorship in promoting emotional competence and well-being of nursing students. METHODS. A research project of qualitative nature, with an analytical focus, using a sociopoetic approach. Participants will be nursing professors and students (second- year of the undergraduate degree) recruited from several public and private, Portuguese and Brazilian, nursing schools. The methodological procedure includes the creation of negotiation and data production workshops, data content analysis, counter-analysis workshop and socialisation of data production. CONCLUSIONS. We hope with this study to strengthen the relationship established with the mentor may constitute a healthier and more adaptative emotional experience, and potentiate generalization to other social contexts, improving daily life interpersonal skills and promoting emotional competence, essential to personal and professional development. This study will enable the development of the mentorship process in the higher education institutions involved in this type of project, grounded on the mentorees’ abilities to learn easily, to increase their socialisation and their networks, to develop feelings of organizational citizenship, to potentiate satisfaction with work and career, to improve their self-e8cacy and reduce their stress levels.
  • Psychoeducation Programs to Reduce Preoperative Anxiety in Adults: A Scoping Review

    Abstract: Background: Surgical procedure is a critical event that causes anxiety for patients. One of the possible intervention strategies to reduce anxiety in the preoperative period is psychoeducation. Methods: A scoping review was conducted according to the JBI methodology and PRISMA-ScR to map knowledge about psychoeducation programs to reduce preoperative anxiety in adults. The data were extracted by the researchers, according to the objective of the study. Finally, the data synthesis was presented in narrative format and tables. Results: four studies were included in the review with different characteristics of psychoeducation programs. The approach of these programs consisted of teaching about anxiety, instruction and training in anxiety control techniques. The contents referred to included the surgical process and intervention techniques to reduce anxiety. Program sessions lasted from 45 to 150 min, with a frequency of 1 to 6. The assessment instrument used was the State- Trait Anxiety Inventory. The dynamisers were nurses, psychotherapists and clinical psychologists. Conclusions: Psychoeducation programs can be useful and effective in reducing anxiety. More studies are needed to confirm these results
