- A eficácia do planejamento no processo ensino-aprendizagemPublication .

- The phantasmatic mind and the superstitious parts of the tattooed bodyPublication . Dias, Maria do Rosário; Ferreira, Ana; Pires, Maria Calejo; Nunes, Inês; Carvalho, Maria do RosárioTattoos have presently become works of art and body accessories, serving as anchors that help to solidify a sense of Self. The present exploratory and qualitative study aimed at understanding the mental representation of the skin in tattooed individuals and the role that tattoos play as a vehicle for the projected identity of the Self. The studied sample consisted of 387 individuals from both genders (146 males and 241 females), aged 16 to 72 years with exposed tattoos, who were invited to produce two self-portraits and a written answer on whether they had experienced any form of discrimination due to their tattooed body. We then proceeded to the content analysis of the 774 collected pictorial drawings, using a grid featuring analytical categories purposely conceived for this study. The results revealed that the self-portraits drawn before the subjects were tattooed showed less body investment than those drawn afterwards. However, the mental representation of the self-portraits drawn after the subjects were tattooed showed a fragmented idea of the body - only the body part that was tattooed was pictorially represented. Additionally, they were associated to a state of happiness (e.g. smile, movement, flexibility, freedom) and to a personal valorization.
- A Multilevel Fault-Tolerant Power Converter for a Switched Reluctance Machine DrivePublication . Pires, Vítor Fernão; Cordeiro, Armando; Foito, Daniel José Medronho; Pires, A. J.; Martins, João; Chen, HaoReliability in the electrical drives is becoming an important issue in many applications. In this context, the reliability associated to the switched reluctance machine (SRM) is also an important area of research. One of the major problems, that strongly affect its operation, are drive power semiconductors faults. Typical power converter topologies used in SRM drives cannot handle faults in their power semiconductors. So, this paper presents a power converter topology that provides fault-tolerant capabilities to the drive under a switch fault. This power converter will be used considering that a change in the direction of the current that flows in the SRM windings does not affect the behavior of the machine. Besides that, the proposed power converter will allow to generate multilevel phase voltages in order to apply different voltage levels as function of the SRM speed. A laboratory power converter was developed to test the SRM drive in normal and faulty conditions. From the obtained results it was possible to verify the fault-tolerant capability of the drive under switch faults in different devices and failure modes. It was also possible to confirm the multilevel operation of the drive.
Cotrim, Hortense; Figueiredo, Maria; Guedes, Virgínia; Ferreira, ManuelaThe Perception of Nurses to Identify the Need for Nursing Care in Reconstituted Families with Adolescent Children. Abstract: Family health nursing aims to promote the empowerment of families in the development of competencies, fostering a healthy living of their processes of change, throughout the life cycle. With respect to these families, dysfunctions can occur due to family coexistence and overlapping of parental roles over the adolescent. In this context the MDAIF arises, aiming to guide the action of nurses, proposing diagnoses and interventions, from the needs identified. The aim was to analyze nurses’ perception of the need for nursing care in reconstituted families with adolescent children. Descriptive and exploratory study, of a qualitative nature, whose participants were nurses who perform functions in primary health care. A questionnaire was used, applied in 2018, with an open question in which the participants were asked to describe strategies for identifying nursing care needs in rebuilt families with adolescent children. For data analysis, content analysis was used, and three categories emerged: “Family Assessment”, focused essentially on observation, interviewing and data collection; the “Context of the evaluation”, predominating the functional unit, within the scope of the nursing consultation; and “Referential”, the MDAIF being the theoretical and operative support for clinical decision making. In the identification of nursing care needs, the family assessment stands out as a methodology valued by nurses. These results may contribute to the development of formative processes, within the framework of family assessment, leading to the improvement of the quality of care.
Queirós, Cristina; Borges, Elisabete; Mosteiro, Pilar; Abreu, Margarida; Baldonedo, MariaIntroduction: Nowadays nurses execute their tasks in demanding and stressful contexts, where the stress accumulates and can trigger burnout. This one seems to be the result from the combination of organizational factors with individual vulnerability, in particular predisposition for anxiety and personality traits such as neuroticism. Objectives: This study aims, by comparing nurses from Portugal/Spain, to identify burnout levels and to analyse if personality and anxiety predict burnout. Methodology: This is a quantitative, exploratory, descriptive and transversal study, using a demographic/professional characterization questionnaire, the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and Maslach Burnout Inventory. After institutional authorizations, participated anonymously and volunteer, 337 Portuguese nurses and 309 Spanish nurses. Results: We found 55% of nurses without burnout, 35% with moderate burnout and 11% with high burnout, without differences between countries. However, the Portuguese nurses present significantly more exhaustion and less depersonalization, less anxiety trait, and more extroversion and Social Desirability, all with a moderate level. In Portugal, the age and professional experience correlate negatively with burnout, and anxiety predicts 32% of burnout. In Spain, anxiety explains 36% of burnout and personality traits only 2%. Discussion: These findings are consistent with studies in which anxiety is a vulnerability factor for burnout, but contradicted the influence of other personality traits, reinforcing the influence of organizational factors. Conclusion: The results are useful, in the field of occupational health, to develop organizational strategies that enhance individual characteristics of stress management, which, lately, have been applied using Mindfulness among nurses and nursing students.
Cunha, Daniela; Ribeiro, Ana; Pereira, Filipe Miguel SoaresIn patients with impaired consciousness, pain self-assessment is impracticable and communication is compromised, therefore challenging assessment by health care professionals. This causes the use of valid and trustful scales to become fundamental. The present study aims to evaluate the clinical potential of the existent scales for the assessment of pain in patients with impaired consciousness. The literature review comprehends the time frame from January of 2005 to June of 2011 based on two search engines and three databases. A total of 654 abstracts and titles were analyzed, 16 papers were selected for a full body revision of which 8 comprise within the present review. Three university archives were visualized and only 1 paper was included herein. Seven distinct assessments of pain scales were identified in patients presenting impaired consciousness. Only one of the scales took into account physiological and behavioral indicators, whereas the remaining others included solely behavioral indicators. The BPS scale obtained the highest rating, thus turning its implementation possible in these patients. More research, concerning the effects of the use of assessment of pain tools in clinics and their implications, is required.
Araújo, F.; Nilza Caldevilla, Maria; Maciel, Cândida; Fernandes, Ana PaulaIntroduction: In good organizational practice, health professionals should be provided with training programs for fall prevention. Aims: To evaluate the impact of an educational program for nurses on the prevention of falls in the elderly population in a community context. Method: This study supports the intervention phase of an Action-Research investigation. Was implemented a training program, with two steps: sensitization (S) and formation (F) held in a group of North Health Centers of Portugal. In the S step, 154 professionals from different areas participated. In the F step, 67 nurses participated. The S step occurred between February and March of 2017. The satisfaction of the training was assesseded. The F step enrolled five sessions, performed between May and June 2017. The target group of this stage were only nurses. In addition to the assessment of training satisfaction, a questionnaire was useded (pre-test). We used descriptive analysis and comparison of means using the IBM SPSS 25.0 software. The Ethics Committee for North Health centers (nº 97/2014) approved the study. Results: In the S step, were represented all the professional areas, but the physicians (43.8%) were more representative. In F step, the sample of nurses is mostly female (80.6%), with an age between 32-60 years. The professional activity years of nurses vary between 8 and 36 years. In the overall assessment of training satisfaction, it was verified that the training dimension (mean 3.71 and mean 3.67), respectively in sessions 3 and 5, was the most valued. Conclusion: The program revealed improvement in nurses’ knowledge.
