- AI-powered ventures: How digital competencies shape entrepreneurial successPublication . Martins, Rui CentenoIn the dynamic realm of digital entrepreneurship, understanding how digital competencies shape entrepreneurial outcomes is vital, especially with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). This study examines how digital competencies, as framed by the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), influence attitudes, subjective norms, digital entrepreneurial self-efficacy, intention, and behavior in the context of utilizing generative AI (BingGPT) for entrepreneurial activities. Utilizing structural equation modelling, data from 311 respondents in Portugal were analyzed. Findings reveal that digital entrepreneurial intention directly drives digital entrepreneurial behavior, with TPB Attitude and SCT Self-Efficacy as key influencers, the latter facilitating the transformation of intention into action. A novel discovery underscores that digital competencies significantly enhance digital entrepreneurial self-efficacy, boosting confidence in digital ventures. Subjective norms do not influence intention, indicating that AI adoption, such as BingGPT, is internally motivated. The study highlights the critical linkage between digital competencies and cognitive-behavioral factors in leveraging AI for entrepreneurship. It contributes to understanding how AI technologies impact attitudinal and cognitive aspects, fostering digital business ventures, and elucidates the sequential influence of digital competencies, TPB, and SCT on intention and behavior in the AI BingGPT domain.
- Digital gatewayFaria, Duarte Lynce deWith its unique geographical position, Portugal is a pivotal player in the global digital connectivity landscape. This issue is primarily due to its strategic location and the substantial presence of critical submarine cables. Legal protection and monitoring of these cables is fundamental to national security, digital sovereignty, and the coun-try’s economy. The significance of submarine cables in global communication is undeniable. These cables, which carry over 98 per cent of global intercontinental communications, are critical infrastructure for energy, health, defence, transport and finance. With numer-ous cables docking and crossing its continental shelf, Portugal’s geographical location is a central hub for digital interconnectivity. Following EU Directives 2022/2555 and 2022/2557 and the revised 2023 EU Mari-time Security Strategy, submarine cables must be considered critical national infra-structure, with enhanced protection and state monitoring. A new international agree-ment is proposed to criminalise malicious or reckless disruption of cables, addressing the limitations of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Coastal states – including Portugal – should take active jurisdiction within their exclu-sive economic zone and continental shelf to monitor, protect and regulate cables. This issue encompasses environmental and seismic factors. However, safeguarding submarine cables is not solely a national duty. International cooperation is essential. NATO, the European Union and South-east Asian nations have led this effort. They have been enhancing protection, surveillance and collaborative measures to defend cables against hybrid threats and sabotage, ensuring the resilience of global digital connectivity. In summary, a medium-term national action plan is proposed to position Portugal as a global hub of digital interconnectivity. This plan includes creating a centre of excel-lence for cable resilience, diplomatic promotion, attracting investment in data centres and strengthening naval surveillance and cybersecurity. The medium-term strategic objectives include reinforcing digital sovereignty, attracting technological investment, and establishing Portugal as an international leader in maritime security and digital infrastructure.

Ao longo dos anos, a Marinha Portuguesa tem enfatizado cada vez mais a importância da liderança como uma competência essencial para os seus militares. O treino da liderança é ministrado em todos os níveis da hierarquia, desde o recrutamento inicial até aos oficiais superiores. No entanto, a forma como a liderança é ensinada e praticada na Marinha Portuguesa tem evoluído ao longo dos anos. Inicialmente, a liderança era frequentemente ensinada de forma hierárquica, com ênfase na autoridade e no comando. Atualmente, a liderança na Marinha Portuguesa é vista como uma competência mais horizontal e colaborativa, que envolve a capacidade de liderar equipas e gerir conflitos de forma construtiva. A Marinha Portuguesa tem também investido em programas de treino de liderança mais avançados, incluindo programas internacionais e intercâmbios, que permitem aos seus militares a oportunidade de aprender com outras organizações e culturas. A liderança eficaz no contexto militar exige não apenas habilidades técnicas e táticas, mas também uma compreensão profunda da ética militar. Os líderes militares são responsáveis por tomar decisões difíceis que podem ter impacto significativo nas vidas dos subordinados e nas operações em geral. Portanto, é crucial que eles ajam de acordo com princípios éticos sólidos. A ética militar abrange uma variedade de valores, que servem de referência para as atitudes e comportamento dos militares da Marinha, sendo centrais da cultura naval, sendo de realçar os valores da Disciplina, a Lealdade, a Honra, a Integridade e a Coragem. Estes valores fundamentais devem ser internalizados pelos líderes miliares e refletidos nas suas ações diárias. Os líderes éticos são modelos a seguir, e a sua conduta ética estabelece o tom para toda a organização militar. Além disso, a ética militar envolve o respeito pelos direitos humanos e a obediência às leis e convenções internacionais. Os líderes militares são responsáveis por garantir que as suas ações e as ações dos seus subordinados estejam de acordo com esses princípios legais e morais. - Repensar a educação no sector marítimo-portuário atendendo aos desafios dos profissionais do amanhãFrias, Armindo; Água, Pedro B.Num mundo em constante evolução, os desafios que se colocam aos profissionais do amanhã serão significativamente distintos dos atuais. O advento de tecnologias disruptivas, como a Inteligência Artificial (IA) ou a democratização do acesso à informação, estão a moldar a nossa sociedade. No futuro, a maioria das profissões que conhecemos terão características e desafios diferentes dos atuais. O ensino e a formação devem adaptar se, complementando a transmissão de conhecimentos técnicos com o desenvolvimento de competências pessoais e sociais. Não basta ensinar a resolver problemas concretos, há que ensinar a analisar e a formalizar esses problemas, a liderar equipas de trabalho e a tomar decisões, assim como a ter a capacidade para aprender ao longo da vida de forma autónoma e em equipa. O sector marítimo-portuário possui especificidades próprias, às quais o ensino deve atender. O objetivo deste artigo é contribuir para um ensino que vá ao encontro das necessidades atuais e futuras da indústria marítimo-portuária. Especial foco foi dado ao desenvolvimento de competências pessoais e sociais, assim como à adoção de metodologias de ensino disruptivas. É feita uma proposta concreta para a criação de um curso de mestrado na área da gestão logística e da engenharia com aplicação ao sector marítimo, que integra conhecimento académico e propostas de profissionais e autoridades da indústria.

Martins, Rui CentenoGrowing environmental concerns and the digital transformation of businesses have intensified the need to understand how sus- tainability and technology interact within organizational decision-making. This study examines how external market pressures, customer expectations, and competitive pressure shape internal innovation mechanisms (marketing, process, organizational) and artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, and how these factors influence decision-making toward green innovation in companies. A quantitative approach was applied using a structured questionnaire administered to 394 consumers and professionals with work experience in companies that integrate sustainability and innovation. The research model was tested through Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling. Results indicate that customer expectations positively affect marketing, process, and orga- nizational innovation but do not significantly influence AI adoption, whereas competitive pressure strongly drives all innovation dimensions, including AI. All internal mechanisms positively impact green innovation decisions, with AI emerging as a strategic enabler. This study applies the stimulus– organism– response (S–O–R) framework to sustainability contexts by integrating AI as an organizational mechanism. It highlights the distinct roles of external pressures, showing that competitive pressure, not cus- tomer expectations, is the main driver for technological integration, offering actionable insights for advancing green innovation strategies.

Silva, Miguel Nuno Machado da; Canadian Military JournalPositive psychology interventions have gained increasing attention in recent years as promising approaches for enhancing psychological well-being and resilience. The S.P.A.C.E intervention is a mindfulness-based strengths training intervention that integrates various evidence-based techniques to promote resilience and well-being. This pilot study evaluates the efficacy of the S.P.A.C.E intervention among Naval Officer Cadets. Participants' resilience and stress response were measured using the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) and the Response to Stressful Experience Scale (RSES) before and after the intervention. Results indicate significant improvements in participants' stress responses. Implications for future research and practical applications are discussed.
