- Epistemic beliefs as a determinant in evidence-based practice in physiotherapy: a multi-country (Europe) cross-sectional online survey studyPublication . Beenena, Paul Christiaan; Filiputtic, Dario; Meyerd, Erna Rosenlund; Carballo-Costa, Lidia; Almeida, Patrícia; Alves Lopes, António; Wijcheng, Joost Egbertus Van; Castro-Caldas, AlexandrePurpose: This article assumes that, in order to improve evidence-based practice in physiotherapy, practitioners need sophisticated epistemic beliefs. Epistemic beliefs, or how physiotherapists view knowledge and how they come to this knowledge, are an important factor. A high sophistication of epistemic beliefs is linked to better handling of the complexity and uncertainty of daily practice and the variety of evidence resources associated with this practice. Materials and methods: This study explored the epistemic beliefs of physiotherapists in 10 different countries in Europe using an online survey: the Connotative Aspects of Epistemic Beliefs (CAEB). Results and conclusions: The study resulted in 1419 surveys. The epistemic beliefs proved to be of little difference between countries, showing a low to moderate sophistication in epistemic beliefs. Given the similar results between countries, this study also suggested the possibility of collaborating internationally in developing an epistemology in physiotherapy that is more suited to the complexity of current demands on health systems. The development of sophistication in epistemic beliefs should be firmly on the agenda for the education of physiotherapists.

- Healthy ageing education across Europe: a survey of ENPHE membersPublication . Alves Lopes, António; Almeida, Patrícia; Maurice, N; Le Goff, L; Pillu, M; Vilaró-Casamitjana, J; Slachtová, MBackground and Purpose Healthy ageing is an optimal status that people could achieve when they currently adapt their physical and psychological evolution that allow them to participate socially with a high level of autonomy. The process of becoming older is a personal process that can be very heterogeneous. This heterogeneity generates different approaches depending on the needs, capacities of adaptation and subject possibilities. Therefore, it is important that any kind of intervention should adapt specifically to each patient. Description With the goal to develop and offer updated education in Healthy Ageing, a group of five universities: Ecole d’Assas (France), Blanquerna-Universitat Ramón Lull (Spain), Univerzita Palackého v Olomouci (Czech Republic), Kolegji Heimerer (Kosovo) and Escola de Saúde do Alcoitão (Portugal) decided to set up a joint adventure as encouraged by ENPHE. Our first step is to benchmark and characterise within Europe the tendencies, the offers and models of best practices. Material / Methods An online questionnaire was developed and sent to all the ENPHE members between January and February of 2017. The survey was composed of twenty close and open questions related to the participant identification, course description and identification of institutional projects in healthy ageing Summary of Results From a population of 136 EMPHE member's we receive 39 complete responses (27%) and the main results are: 69% of the respondents offer courses about healthy ageing; 88% Integrated in the bachelor degree ; mainly for Physiotherapists students (92%); and with the most prevalent topics (above 80%) - Assessment and intervention of clients/populations, multidisciplinary issues and Prevention; the main pedagogical approaches used are lectures (88%), clinical training/field work (77%) and casebased learning (74%); being written or oral examination (81%) the main assessment strategies used. Importance It is very important to empower the individual to become autonomous in deciding how to manage their own ageing process in a healthy way. Any curricula should take in account this reality in order to transform the role of health care professionals and provide them competences to support individuals in this process.

- Trends in physiotherapy education: retrospective analysis of ECPE presentationsPublication . Alves Lopes, António; Almeida, Patrícia; Beenen, PaulThe last decade both physiotherapy and education faced many demands. Educators are challenged to show evidence and report their best practices. An overview of what has been the focus in the ECPE conference show and the main areas of interest and the development in the European Higher Education Area. It provides the opportunity to benchmark towards the policy statement of education of the World Physiotherapy Confederation. Thus increase the consistency and perhaps assisting in formulating a relevant research agenda for the future. The purpose of this study is to give an overview of the trends in physiotherapy education of the last decennium as it is presented at the conferences of the European the World Physiotherapy Confederation (ECPE). A descriptive and retrospective study was carried out and qualitative and quantitative analysis was made on the basis of content and study design/ methodology, by 3 independent reviewers of all abstracts presented at each of the two previous ECPE conferences of 2004 (Estoril - Portugal) and 2008 (Stockholm -Sweden). Categories for content analyses were developed on base of the distribution and main themes used in the conference. This analysis was constrainted by lack of transparency on the description of methodologies in the abstracts and also by the different organization of the abstract books. We needed to create a category "Not Conclusive" and make our decisions based on the rahter classic distinction of qualitative and quantitative study types and methodology. In the results we can find an increase of total presentations from the first to the second conference. In both conference there is a clear preference for special interest issues and in the research the qualitative studies are more favored. There is a total increase in research and implementation research from the first conference to the second. We intepretate this as a logical consequence as in the first conference most of the presentations were focused on new strategies and policies. In the second conference the aim was more directed to the implementation and scientific grounding of these innovations. Educations Institutes and professionals developed more research on Continuous Professional Development, Teaching and Learning strategies, Curriculum Development and Clinical Education. Presumably these topics are related with the European movement – ‘ Europe a strong society in 2020!’, where education and professionals should meet an European standard. The next step could be a comparison with WCPT and educational networks like COHEHRE and ENPHE. It helps researchers and educators to get a better inside of the research agenda and build upon earlier work. It gives an incentive to the development of high quality methodologies. An overview of reports in conferences gives the opportunity to compare with published results and could challenge publishing criteria.
