- O EMPREENDEDORISMO E SUAS DETERMINANTES: OPORTUNIDADE OU NECESSIDADE?Publication .
- Risk assessment: Information for qualitative estimation of probability and severity in high risk work contextPublication . Ribeiro, António; Thomaz, João; Veiga, Rui
- Accompanied management and evaluation method of exposure risks to biological agents.Publication . Veiga, Rui; Miguel, Isabel; Cadete Pires, Cristina Maria PauloThe presence of biological agents in the workplace may result in hazardous situations for workers. The present study was carried out in the microbiology laboratory of a Medical School and the methodology was based on the qualitative method presented in the Technical Note of Spanish Prevention (NTP 833) and the Accompanied Method of Biological Risk Management (MAGRB). It was concluded that the MAGRB allows to distinguish and prioritize the risk associated to the different operations as a whole, taking into account safety conditions and practices, if evaluation parameters defined in the legislation of bio-logical agents are met, something that the International method (NTP 833) does not allow doing so effectively. As the focus of worker protection, the MAGRB provides the necessary guidelines to trigger a prevention structure in all ac-tivities likely to be exposed to biological agents.
- Classification and Decision Making of Medical Infrared Thermal ImagesPublication . Ricardo Vardasca, PhD, ASIS, FRPSMedical infrared thermal imaging (MITI) is a technique that allows safe and non-invasive recording of skin surface temperature distribution. The images gained provide underlining physiological information on the blood flow, vasoconstriction/vasodilatation, inflammation, transpiration or other processes that can contribute to skin temperature. This medical imaging modality has been available for nearly six decades and has proved to be useful for vascular, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. Since the recordings are digital, in the form of a matrix of numbers (image), it can be computationally analyzed by a specialist mainly performing processing and analysis operations manually supported by proprietary software solutions. This limits the number of images that can be processed, making difficult for knowledge to evolve, expertise to develop and information to be shared. This chapter aims to disclose the medical imaging method, along with its particularities, principles, applications, advantages and disadvantages. The chapter introduces all available classification and decision making methods that can be employed using digital information, together with a literature review of their operation in the biomedical applications of infrared thermal imaging.
- The need for creative actions in tourism in the Post-COVID 19 pandemic worldPublication . Carvalho, RuiThe unprecedented advent of COVID 19 has put the world and tourism sectors at a halt. Never have we faced a global problem such as the one we are experiencing. While countries take measures to mitigate the pandemic “revolution”, the tourism sector strongly affected, tries once again to fight against this major problem. At the time I write this contribution, 50 - 75 million jobs are estimated to be lost in tourism and according to the UNWTO, a million jobs, some of them in layoff conditions in this sector will be lost per day and global tourism arrivals could fall by nearly a third this year in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The approach I use to discuss such matters and point to creative actions in the Post-COVID 19 pandemic tourism world, is based in the agency of Pierre Bourdieu and the concept of action of Hanna Arendt. This is done to emphasize transformative decisions and actions by all social agents of the tourism ecosystem in trying to thrive in the post-pandemic tourism scenario. Such suggestions are presented in the final section of this contribution. The author postulates that only fully engaged tourism academics and practitioners, willing to act differently and to take actions in changing the world of tourism.
- A EXPERIÊNCIA ENOTURÍSTICA: uma definição e revisão do conceitoPublication . Santos, Vasco
- Advances in Tourism, Technology and SystemsPublication . Santos, VascoWine tourism has long since ceased to be just a visit to wine producing regions and wineries, just to taste or buy wine. In fact, wine tourism has become more complex as a tourist product, due to the requirement of visitors to obtain a differenti ated experience, composed of multiple elements Wine tourism activities consist of, above all, wine tastings and cellar, wine house and wine museum visits. Currently, and in the future, wine tourism has provided and boosted the creation of genuine and unique tourist experiences, more and more differentiated tailor-made. This prelim inary approach aims to evaluate the role of wine storytelling as an antecedent in the wine tourism experience, namely on other constructs as winescape attributes, sensorial attraction, wine excitement and cultural experience. A range of practical implications are provided for wine tourism managers, marketers and wine guided tours namely on the importance on the training the storytelling skill by the wine cellars staff. The new vogue of wine tourism forces us to challenge and re-visit the power relationships that exist within contemporary tourism and the host–guest relationship. As an interdisciplinary approach, this research contributes positively to the development of theory in relationship marketing and tourism contexts in wine management (theoretical implications). At the end, guidelines for future work will be presented.
