Abstract(s)
The World Health Organization (2020) and the Direção-Geral de Saúde (2019) warn for the importance of feeding in the first year of life for the children’s health and future adult, disclosing intervention plans in this regard. Several authors study the correlation between culture/religion and the lifestyle and health beliefs, making its influence clear. With the immigration increase, it becomes imperative to adapt health care and nursing intervention to the clients’ culture, in order to meet the specific needs of each client and their family. That so, throughout this project, we sought to identify, develop and implement culturally competent nursing interventions that facilitate the promotion of healthy eating in the first year of life of Southern Asian origin children, supported by Leininger’s Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality, Family Centered Care Philosophy and the Anticipatory Care. This report reflects the development of specific and common competencies as a pediatric nurse specialist through the reflective methodology, with two general objectives: (1) Develop common and specific competences of a pediatric nurse specialist that allow to provide care to children and their family, in the health/sickness processes, in the different pediatric contexts and stages of development; (2) Develop competences within the scope of promoting healthy eating habits, in the first year of life of the Southern Asia children, in the different pediatric contexts. Critical and reflective analysis constantly accompanied the performance of activities throughout the different internship contexts, showing the skills development and the contribution of knowledge and strategies directed to the subject of this report and, consequently, to the development of Nursing.
