Abstract(s)
The main objective of this research study is to analyze the perceptions of young people who experience foster care about their process of autonomy, as well as how they experience their preparation. It intends to analyze how the technicians of the institutions prepare the young people's exit during the residential care process, as well as their perceptions about its importance for the success of the exit. In order to understand these issues, a study was carried out with 4 young people from the "Casa da Eira", through an interview carried out for this purpose. The qualitative analysis method was used in this study, as the technique applied was a semi-structured interview. It is important to analyze the young people's perceptions about the foster care measure, i.e. about the values, the policies of the organization, the routines of the institution, the activities, the social relationships and, in particular, about their autonomy process and vocational training. The general objectives of the study focused on the experiences of young people during the process of institutionalization, especially the preparation of their autonomy process. The research concluded that it is still necessary to work on some aspects of autonomy skills in young people, such as money management and use of services. It should also be present in its organizational policy and professional practices, the work with biological families and the monitoring of young people post-institutionalization, as this may be a reality.
