- Vocational education and training policies: the tension between inclusion, employability and democratizationPublication . The purpose of this project is to understand the interaction between lifelong learning policies, the life conditions and stages of young adults in situations of vulnerability, and the promotion of social development and inclusion. This communication focuses on the analysis of double certification education and training (VET) provisions (Apprenticeship courses, Professional courses and Adult VET courses), promoted either by regular and Professional schools or public training centres, in the sub-region of the Alentejo Litoral, in Portugal. The analysis of legal frameworks and interviews reveals a tension between three mains aims: the fight against exclusion, the promotion of individual employability and the democratization of school access and success. However, the hegemonic resonant discourse is strongly anchored in a technical-instrumental perspective of education and training, oriented towards employability, and the management of human resources according to the labor market needs.

Almeida, António José; Vaz, Isabel Faria; Marques, Maria Amélia; Dominguinhos, PedroO presente artigo apresenta os resultados de um estudo de caso sobre a inserção profissional dos licenciados. Os dados recolhidos apontam para uma situação positiva quanto à relevância da oferta formativa face às opções de recrutamento adoptadas pelas organizações. Esses resultados estão patentes quer na facilidade com que os diplomados se integram no mercado de trabalho, mais de 80% dos diplomados que procura emprego no final da licenciatura obtêm-no num prazo inferior a 6 meses, quer no facto de cerca de 60% dos diplomados que não procuram emprego o fazerem por terem ficado a trabalhar no local em que realizaram o estágio curricular.

Almeida, António JoséThis paper aims to contribute to the problematization of the employability concept, namely by discussing its heuristic potential for the understanding of Portuguese labour market dynamics. Starting with a revision of national and international literature, we will then discuss the role companies can play in promoting employability both through continuous vocational training policies and through the forms of work organization they choose.
