- Application of dental morphological characteristics for medical-legal identification: sexual diagnosis in a portuguese populationPublication . Abrantes, Catarina; Santos, Rui; Pestana, Dinis; Pereira, Cristiana Palmela"The main purpose of this work is to investigate the application of dental morphological features as a potential qualitative method of sex classification in medico-legal identification. The classification of 16 non-metric dental traits was performed by ASUDAS (Arizona State University Dental Anthropology System) method. The traits displayed exclusively by the crowns of permanent teeth were analyzed on dental casts of a Portuguese population sample consisting of 53 male and 57 female individuals. No significant differences (p<0.05) were found between males and females for all investigated traits, except for the dental tubercle of tooth 13, for the metaconule of tooth 27 and the canine distal accessory ridge of teeth 33 and 43. Based on the method applied, tooth 43 has proven to be the most dimorphic among the Portuguese population. Further, a gender classification model using significant different traits between both sexes of the teeth 13, 27 and 43 was developed, and it proved to have a reasonable gender classification reliability (with 76.4 percent of correct classification, Cox & Snell’s pseudo R2 equals to 0.344 and Nagelkerke’s pseudo R2 equals to 0.458) although with a significant probability of misclassification."
- Development and evaluation of a new multidimensional oral health indicatorPublication . Mendes, José João; Santos, Rui; Lyra, Patrícia; Delgado, Ana Sintra; Machado, Vanessa; Botelho, João; Proença, LuísAim: To develop a new multidimensional oral health indicator (MOHi) to ascertain and characterize overall oral health status. Materials and Methods: MOHi was developed using data from first-time patients (N = 1,034) attending a university dental clinic over an 18-month period. Participants completed the Oral Health Value Scale (OHVS), the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14) and self-reported periodontal status questionnaires. Caries experience through Decayed, Missing and Filled Teeth (DMFT) index, was combined with radiographs. MOHi was built as a linear combination of the normalized OHVS, OHIP-14 and DMFT scores, in a continuous scale from 0 to 3, with higher scores representing a more degraded oral health condition. MOHi was evaluated according to sociodemographic, behavioral characteristics, and periodontal self-reported status. We compared MOHi mean values with t- Student's test and ANOVA one-way. Stepwise multivariate logistic regression methodologies modelled MOHi and identified significant predictors. Model performance was evaluated by ROC/AUC analysis.

- Lexicographic qualitative approach of nurse’s perspectives on men’s access to sexual health care in PortugalPublication . Tereso, Alexandra; Curado, Alice; Brantes, Ana; Fernandes, João; Santos, Rui; Antunes, LinaThe lack of visibility of men in sexual and reproductive healthcare emphasises the challenges in addressing this topic, given its personal, private, and subjective nature. Nurses can play an important role in formulating policies that promote male sexual health, contributing to the creation of health programs and defending men’s rights concerning sexual healthcare access. This study aimed to analyse nurse’s perspectives regarding men’s sexual healthcare access in Portugal. A qualitative descriptive study was conducted. Focus group (FG) interviews with 15 nurses working in Portugal were analysed using lexicographic analysis with the support of the interface IRaMuTeQ-R. From the two FGs, 487 text segments were analysed and five classes emerged: Approach triggers between nurses and men; Therapeutic itineraries singularities; Sexual health as a subject; Issues surrounding men’s sexual health; Settings for addressing men’s sexual health. Nurses’ perspectives about men’s access to sexual healthcare revealed challenges in recognising men as legitimate recipients of such care, as well as the broader issue of men’s political invisibility in this area. The importance of deconstructing simplistic notions about men and masculinity was underlined, highlighting the need to recognize diversity among men to ensure that sexual health care is truly effective. Male opportunities in sexual healthcare in Portugal require a comprehensive and inclusive approach in nurses’ education, training, and practices, as well as political guidelines that can make these opportunities clear to men, nurses, and other health professionals.
- Os Media nas Operações de Apoio à PazPublication . Santos, RuiO Exército Português tem empenhado forças militares no cumprimento de missões de apoio à paz em vários Teatros de Operações, cumprindo assim os compromissos internacionais do Estado Português no âmbito militar. Os Orgãos de Comunicação Social têm um papel fundamental em dar a conhecer à população o papel das Forças Armadas em Portugal e no mundo. É através destes que a população portuguesa pode conhecer com a clareza e a isenção adequada, o trabalho que o Exército Português desenvolve nas Operações de Apoio à Paz. É importante que um comandante tenha em linha de conta a forma como os Orgãos de Comunicação Social se enquadram nos actuais Teatros de Operações. Este estudo incide na actual relação que existe entre o Exército e os Órgãos de Comunicação Social. Tem como principais objectivos demonstrar em que medida a presença de jornalistas é benéfica para as Operações de Apoio à Paz. Para tal a metodologia empregue baseou -se numa caracterização do papel do Exército no âmbito das Operações de Apoio à Paz, seguindo-se uma explicação das relações entre jornalistas, e a instituição militar ao longo do tempo. Neste estudo verificam-se as restrições à liberdade de expressão dos militares e de que forma estes se podem expressar. De seguida definem -se as principais razões de conflitualidade entre a Comunicação Social e a Instituição militar. Como se trata de uma investigação, realizaram-se inquéritos e entrevistas a oficias com conhecimentos na área, com o intuito de se analisar a actual cooperação entre jornalistas e militares. Chegou-se à conclusão que o Exército beneficia com a presença dos Órgãos de Comunicação Social, numa Operação de Apoio à Paz, melhorando a sua imagem perante a opinião pública. Este binómio de relacionamento entre Exército e Órgãos de Comunicação Social necessita de uma contínua aposta na formação de jornalistas e militares, de forma a aprimorar este relacionamento.
- MEtop - a generator for single top production via FCNC interactionsPublication . The MEtop event generator allows for Next-to-Leading-Order direct top production $pp \to t$ and Leading-Order production of several other single top processes. A few packages with definite sets of dimension six operators are available. We discuss how to improve the bounds on the effective operators and how well new physics can be probed with each set of independent dimension six operators.

This new tool calculates the cross section and generates events with Next-to-Leading order precision for the Direct top process and Leading-Order precision for all other FCNC single top processes. A set of independent dimension six FCNC operators has been implemented - including four-fermion operators - where at least one top-quark is present in the interaction.
