- Construction and Validation of the Positive Mental Health Literacy Assessment Scale in AdultsPublication . Chaves, Cláudia; Duarte, João; Sampaio, Francisco; Coelho, Joana; Gonçalves, Amadeu; Santos, Vanda; Sequeira, CarlosLow mental health literacy levels have a profound negative effect on healthcare outcomes, usage of healthcare services and healthcare expenditure. To date, there is little research and a lack of instruments available to address and assess positive mental health literacy levels in community-dwelling adults. Thus, this study sought to develop an instrument to assess positive mental health literacy in adults and to evaluate its psychometric properties. A scale developed in European Portuguese and composed of 32 items was designed to assess positive mental health literacy among community-dwelling adults and was validated using exploratory factor analysis. Five latent factors were identified (decision making, prosocial attitudes, perception of resources, community involvement, and problem solving), whose hypothesised structure was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis using structural equation modelling. Evidence showed that the scale’s factor structure is reliable and valid and adequately represents the theorised constructs. Thus, this may be a useful assessment tool for clinical practice since it will allow a more rigorous assessment of positive mental health literacy and better mental health promotion interventions in the population.
- Development and Psychometric Properties of the Therapeutic Relationship Assessment Scale–Patient (TRAS‐Patient)Publication . Coelho, Joana Catarina Ferreira; Ribeiro, Joana Isabel Ferreira; Ribeiro, Ana Rita Martins; Trindade, Ana Carolina Gonçalves; Sequeira, Carlos; Roldán Merino, Juan Francisco; Moreno Poyato, Antonio Rafael; Sampaio, FranciscoThe therapeutic relationship plays a crucial role in nursing care for people with mental illness. Adopting a systemic and person‐centred approach that considers the individual experiences and needs of the person is paramount. However, no instruments were found in the literature designed to evaluate the nurse–patient therapeutic relationship from the perspective of a person with mental illness. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of an instrument for assessing the quality of the nurse–patient therapeutic relationship from the patient's perspective. An e‐Delphi study was conducted to develop the assessment tool, and a psychometric study was carried out to examine its psychometric properties. The sample comprised 240 adults with mental illness. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha and the Omega coefficient. The final structure of the assessment instrument included 24 items distributed across two factors, explaining 64.2% of the variance. Cronbach's alpha was 0.94, and the Omega coefficient was 0.96. The intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.84 (95% CI: 0.66–0.92). The therapeutic relationship assessment scale (TRAS‐Patient) shows good psychometric properties. This is a relevant tool for assessing the quality of the nurse–patient therapeutic relationship from the patient's perspective, thus promoting a patient‐centred approach and responding to the patient's needs. Mental health nurses can access a tool for evaluating the nurse–patient therapeutic relationship centred on disciplinary knowledge. This enables patient involvement in care, enhanced care and person‐centred practice.
- Efficacy of the Use of Exergames in Promoting the Mental Health of the Elderly: Protocol of a Systematic ReviewPublication . Lima, Andreia; Moreira, Maria Teresa; Ferreira, Maria Salomé; Parola, Vítor; Sampaio, Francisco; Nóbrega, Maria do Perpétuo; Fernandes, Carla SílviaBackground: Scientific and technological advancements have significantly impacted our daily lives, and it is not easy to imagine living without their benefits. However, elderly individuals may experience limited access to these resources, impeding their autonomy. To address this, the use of exergames has been proposed to promote the mental health and socialization of older people. This study aims to systematically review the effectiveness of exergames in promoting older people’s mental health and socialization. Methods: The Joanna Briggs Institute’s recommended methodology will be used for a systematic review. Databases relevant to the research topic, such as those regarding gerontologic care, aged rehabilitation, geriatric games, video games, play and playthings, mental health, anxiety, depression, stress, and physiological factors, will be searched for experimental and quasi-experimental studies, as well as randomized studies with and without control groups. Results: The systematic literature review will synthesize findings on the effectiveness of exergames in promoting mental health and socialization in the elderly population. Conclusions: Exergames may have the potential to effectively improve the mental health and socialization of the elderly population. Identifying which exergames are most effective for these purposes is important to inform the provision of healthcare to this population.

- Intervention Programs for First-Episode Psychosis: A Scoping Review ProtocolPublication . Gouveia, Marta; Costa, Tiago; Morgado, Tânia; Sampaio, Francisco; Rosa, Amorim; Sequeira, CarlosEarly intervention programs for first-episode psychosis aim to intervene in the early stages of the disease. They are essential to prevent and delay the progression of the illness to a more advanced stage, but information about their characteristics is not systematized. The scoping review considered all studies of first-episode psychosis intervention programs, regardless of their context (hospital or community), and explored their characteristics. The scoping review was developed according to the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and PRISMA-ScR guidelines. The PCC mnemonic (population, concept, and context) addressed research questions, the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the search strategy. The scoping review sought to identify the literature that meets the predefined inclusion criteria. The research was conducted in the following databases: Web of Science Core Collection, MEDLINE, CINAHL Complete and PsycINFO, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and JBI Evidence Synthesis. The search for unpublished studies included OpenGrey (a European repository) and MedNar. It used sources in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French. It included quantitative, qualitative, and multi-method/mixed methods studies. It also considered gray or unpublished literature. After removing duplicates, two independent reviewers extracted the relevant information after selecting the articles. If there were disagreements, a third reviewer was used. The researchers have developed a tool based on the JBI model that will allow them to extract the relevant information for the review. The results are presented schematically in narratives and tables. This scoping review maps first-episode psychosis intervention programs by identifying their characteristics, participants, and specific implementation contexts and allows researchers to create multicomponent programs tailored to different contexts.
