- Accompanied management and evaluation method of exposure risks to biological agents.Publication . Veiga, Rui; Miguel, Isabel; Cadete Pires, Cristina Maria PauloThe presence of biological agents in the workplace may result in hazardous situations for workers. The present study was carried out in the microbiology laboratory of a Medical School and the methodology was based on the qualitative method presented in the Technical Note of Spanish Prevention (NTP 833) and the Accompanied Method of Biological Risk Management (MAGRB). It was concluded that the MAGRB allows to distinguish and prioritize the risk associated to the different operations as a whole, taking into account safety conditions and practices, if evaluation parameters defined in the legislation of bio-logical agents are met, something that the International method (NTP 833) does not allow doing so effectively. As the focus of worker protection, the MAGRB provides the necessary guidelines to trigger a prevention structure in all ac-tivities likely to be exposed to biological agents.
- Avaliação da Qualidade das Regiões Críticas do Serviço de Colheita de Órgãos em PortugalPublication . Rosário, Albérico; Cruz, Rui; Miguel, Isabelavaliação da qualidade dos serviços no contexto do marketing de serviços é um instrumento, que possibilita melhorar um conjunto de procedimentos, com objetivo de um serviço de excelência. Torna-se, premente desenvolver investigações sobre a avaliação da qualidade dos serviços, assim como, das regiões críticas, de modo a compreender melhor as condições associadas à eficácia das suas atuações. O estudo tem como objetivo contribuir para a compreensão do processo de avaliação da qualidade dos serviços e para o estudo deste fenómeno no contexto português, e especificamente, nos serviços de saúde. Avaliando a qualidade das regiões críticas do serviço de colheita de órgãos nacional, utilizando o modelo Servperf adaptado ao contexto dos serviços de saúde, nomeadamente o serviço de colheita de órgãos português. A amostra foi constituída pelos participantes procedentes dos gabinetes de colheita de órgãos nacional. Os resultados identificaram um conjunto de itens, que carecem de uma atuação de ações de correção. A avaliação da qualidade que os profissionais de saúde do serviço de colheita de órgãos fazem é explicada por 58%, e se recomendava o serviço de colheitas como local de trabalho é explicada por 50%. Os profissionais de saúde das equipas de colheita de órgãos parecem estar globalmente satisfeitos com a qualidade do serviço que prestam, com médias por dimensão que variam entre 5,61 e 6,03. Os resultados são dissecados e discutidos à luz da teoria e investigação empírica no âmbito do marketing dos serviços. Por outro lado, traduzir os dados do estudo empírico em linhas de intervenção mais sensíveis, percebidas pelos profissionais, para além da identificação de futuras linhas de investigação.
- EL “OUTSOURCING” COMO UN RECURSO ESTRATÉGICO DE LA COMPETITIVIDAD INTERNACIONAL DEL MERCADO ESPAÑOLPublication . Lopes da Costa, Renato; Martinho, Filipa; Miguel, Isabel; Barreiros, LuísLa globalización del mercado empresarial actual requiere de una visión global, lógica y de carácter funcional, vinculada a la creación de valor desde un punto de vista del coste, el tiempo y la prestación del servicio. La enfatización de nuevas formas organizacionales y nuevos procesos de trabajo en términos contractuales ha dejado de ser vista como un recurso pasando a ser entendida como una necesidad básica y fundamental. Este artículo tiene como objetivo presentar un componente teórico relacionado con una estrategia de negocio muy particular, dada la importancia que pueda tener en el actual contexto empresarial de España. En esta medida, cabe preguntarse lo siguiente: ¿es el sector del "Outsourcing" la respuesta ideal y una herramienta influyente y poderosa de cambio organizacional?, ¿podrá este sector ser uno de los focos de proyección internacional de España y una verdadera fuente de ingresos en tiempos de crisis y cerca de la recesión? En realidad, este puede ser el camino para capitalizar las ventajas de España, mejorar sus desventajas, crear empleo, generar riqueza, promover la competitividad internacional y, aún más importante, ser la medicina alternativa para curar la enfermedad que supone ahora el déficit publico español y que el tratamiento “Outsourcing” podría eventualmente ayudar a regenerar.
- Factors that Influence the Adoption of Postgraduate Online CoursesPublication . Martinho, Domingos; Santos, Eulália; Miguel, Isabel; Cordeiro, DinaA research about factors that lead students to choose online courses, as well as the acceptance of these courses, can provide very relevant information for higher education institutions’ decision makers to amend these offers to students’ interests and needs. An investigation through questionnaire was developed involving students who attended online post-graduate courses. It was intended to know which factors affect students' decision to opt for postgraduate online courses. A model, based on the TAM (Technology Acceptance Model), was tested to find out what factors determine the intention to use online learning. The results shows that most respondents favour online courses and that their decision, when choosing this type of course, is mainly influenced by time management flexibility, avoiding going to school and the course curriculum interest. The test of the model, with structural equations, shows that attitude regarding online courses and perceived usefulness are factors that predict the intention to use. It was also concluded that the perceived ease of use induces a direct and indirect effect on the intention to use. The most significant results are consistent with published studies and can help the higher education institutions to define offer and communication strategies to reach a greater number of candidates for online learning.
- Os fatores que determinam a decisão dos estudantes na escolha de cursos de pós-graduação onlinePublication . Martinho, Domingos; Cordeiro, Dina; Miguel, IsabelA investigação sobre os fatores que levam os candidatos a optar por ensino online pode fornecer informação muito relevante para os decisores das IES ajustarem essas ofertas aos interesses e necessidades dos estudantes. Com essa finalidade desenvolveu-se uma investigação que envolveu os estudantes que frequentaram, formação pós graduada numa instituição de ensino superior em regime totalmente online nos últimos quatro anos letivos. Os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que a maioria dos inquiridos prefere o ensino totalmente online e que a sua decisão no momento de optarem por este tipo de cursos, é influenciada, sobretudo, pela flexibilidade na gestão do tempo, não serem necessárias deslocações à escola e pelo interesse no currículo do curso. Constatou-se ainda que aspetos tais como: curiosidade em saber como funciona o ensino online e a possibilidade de trabalhar com professores ou estudantes de outras escolas não são considerados relevantes no momento de decidir sobre a frequência de um curso online.
- Privatization Process and Talent Management in AngolaPublication . Lopes da Costa, Renato; Sampaio, Marta Correia; Miguel, IsabelThe problem of the privatization process began in the 1940s, even though it only really began to gain a prominent place in the entrepreneurial path, about 50 years later. The processes of privatization of the world economies, which led to the triggering of a set of cooperative strategies based on the State-owned enterprises privatization, and, of course, all these events, had repercussions also in Angola. Based on an investigation of a pragmatic or inductive nature, based on a non-probabilistic sample, due to the lack of studies and information about the phenomenon of Angola’s privatization during the period from colonial independence to the present. This article aims to develop this subject by presenting, on the one hand, a set of causes that were the basis of the failure in the privatization processes taken place in Angola between 1989 and 2005 and which degenerated into the collapse of its corporate network. And, on the other hand, it presents an idea of the possible impact that these privatization processes failures had, and still have, on Talent Management by Angolan organizations. It also presents a set of suggestions which could be considered in future privatization processes that may occur by building a more consistent business structure in economic and business terms.

But can this sector be regarded as knowledge intensive activity based on true structure of expertise knowledge? One way to understand if we can consider that sector as a source of knowledge dissemination is realizing its relationship with the market in terms of knowledge, rather than identify only as a set of static techniques to be applied as in most of times they have been doing. This article presents itself as a reflection about the real reasons for the increasing use ofmanagement consulting services, indicating simultaneously that can really be a true field of opportunities for the academic class if the study will focused in the establishment and institutionalization of micropractices (strategy-as-practice) that there are used and its implications in terms of organizational results.
- The boundaries in the area of knowledge transfer in management consultingPublication . Costa, Renato Lopes da; António, Nelson; Sampaio, Marta Correia; Miguel, IsabelIn a historical retrospective, although the existing literature calls the management consulting industry an extraordinary sector and a unique phenomenon in the business context, in fact these statements are not accompanied by a number of academic studies that emphasize the importance of the effective work of the management consultants. To contest the lack of studies in this emerging area, this article aims to understand the implications of the border to the transfer of information and knowledge from management consultants to their client companies. The results of the empirical analysis in the form of semi-structured interviews and questionnaires applied to management consultants and SME managers in Portugal reveal that the competency factor must be based on the four knowledge families of business management - the know- know, the competence, know-how and know-how to be and it is only from this conjugation that any kind of constraints that can be found along the way (political, physical or cultural) are able to be unblocked.
- The Importance of Relationships for the Produced Knowledge in the Sector of Management ConsultingPublication . Lopes da Costa, Renato; Martinho, Filipa; Miguel, IsabelWhile the management consulting industry has been largely linked to the knowledge produced within the disciplines of strategic management in the academic field, the truth is that very little literature is produced in terms of research in this area, while the researchers focused more on a set of static techniques to be applied in the development of this field of research concerns. This article seeks to bridge this gap as well, showing by example that the consultancy sector is a true field of opportunities for the study of relationships management. This presentation is thus the aim of contributing both theoretically and empirically in the area of relationships through research in the context of management consulting, trying to visualize how the relationships are manifested in a context of high involvement and personal contact, and what’s the perception that must be taken into consideration by clients and consultants in terms of the benefits of their greater or lesser degree of involvement.
- Variation in risk category in methods of calculation of the modified fire load densityPublication . Cadete Pires, Cristina Maria Paulo; Veiga, Rui; Miguel, IsabelThe management of fire safety in buildings is conducted in accordance with the type of use-risk category (Building occupancy code). For Building type XI “libraries and archives” and XII “industrial, workshops and warehouses", the determination of the risk category involves the calculation of the modified fire load density, which can be done by two methods used interchangeably by the technician: deterministic and probabilistic. This study aims to investigate variation results obtained with the calculation of the modified fire load density using two methods and the classification of the Building occupancy code. The performed calculations referred to real buildings of type XII, with defined and distinct materials and activities. The different results determine a variation in the risk category, which consequently, will define the technical criteria to be applied to the Building occupancy code in the implementation for Building Fire Safety measures.
