- ATMOSFERAS: A EXPERIÊNCIA NA OBRA DE PETER ZUMTHORPublication . Dias, Ricardo; Mendes, SérgioO presente trabalho académico reflecte o interesse em aprofundar a relação que se dá entre o carácter construtivo e material da arquitectura, e do lado sensorial e emocional do ser humano. O nosso principal interesse é o de estudar o desenrolar da experiência sensorial que decorre nos edifícios, e como é que isso pode ser manipulado pelo arquitecto. Procurámos a princípio abordar brevemente o tema dos órgãos sensoriais humanos, como seus instrumentos de percepção e a vertente fenomenológica da filosofia, para conseguirmos ter um melhor entendimento dos complexos fenómenos da percepção humana. De seguida concentrámo-nos na discussão do tema das "atmosferas" em arquitectura, que representa a relação que decorre entre todas as características físicas e materiais componentes dos espaços arquitectónicos e a percepção humana deles. Analisámos ainda o método de trabalho do arquitecto Peter Zumthor, para compreendermos melhor o papel deste tema no seu processo conceptual. Na fase final do trabalho realizámos uma investigação a duas obras deste arquitecto que visitámos, o Museu Kolumba (Colónia, Alemanha) e a Capela de Bruder Klaus (Wachendorf, Alemanha). Tentámos descrever e analisar a experiência vivida nestes edifícios, e verificar como o arquitecto trabalhou em função desse tema.
- Brucella ceti in common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) in Portugal : characterization of first isolatesPublication . Cavaco, Sandra; Grilo, Miguel L.; Dias, Ricardo; Nunes, Mónica; Pascoal, Pedro; Pereira, Marcelo; Fogaça, Catarina; Costa, Ana Beatriz; Pardal, Sofia; Ferreira, Ana CristinaThis study investigates Brucella ceti infection in marine mammals stranded along the Lisbon and Tagus Valley coast between 2022 and mid-2024, marking the first report of Brucella presence in Portuguese waters. Out of 59 examined marine mammals, B. ceti was isolated in three common dolphins (5.1%), a prevalence rate consistent with previous studies from other coastlines. PCR-based detection indicated a higher infection rate (23.7%), suggesting an underestimation of the prevalence of B. ceti infection in this population. Multi-locus Sequence Typing (MLST) and Multiple-Locus Variable-Number Tandem-Repeat Analysis (MLVA) revealed distinct genetic profiles and close relationships to B. ceti strains from the Atlantic, supporting the hypothesis of specific host-adapted lineages in dolphins. Virulence genes, including those for host interaction (bspE, btpB) and intracellular survival (virB7, vceA), were consistent across isolates, highlighting the pathogenic potential. Additionally, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes, such as mprF and efflux proteins (bepC-G), were also identified. These findings underscore the need for further research and surveillance to understand B. ceti transmission, host range, and impacts on Atlantic cetaceans, as well as to develop effective diagnostic and management strategies to mitigate infection risks in marine environments.
- As novas ameaças e a Defesa Antiaérea de grandes centros urbanosPublication . Dias, RicardoÉ objectivo principal deste trabalho mostrar de que forma se poderá efectuar a defesa antiaérea de centros urbanos face às novas ameaças aéreas, a partir da análise da situação em Portugal Continental traduzindo-se como sendo este o problema primordial. Para tal, foram adoptados dois métodos de investigação. O dedutivo, aplicando-se conceitos gerais em situações particulares e o método inquisitivo, realizando-se entrevistas a especialistas das várias matérias, por forma a esclarecer dúvidas resultantes da análise documental. Este estudo, revelou uma transformação na ameaça aérea passando actualmente a ser considerado como tal, os mísseis balísticos tácticos, os mísseis cruzeiro, os foguetes, artilharia e morteiros e as aeronaves civis desviadas para atentados terroristas de nome de código Renegade. Este desenvolvimento, conjugado com o surgir de novos actores na cena internacional, levou de igual forma a que os centros urbanos se tornassem mais vulneráveis e atractivos, pela elevada quantidade de infra-estruturas críticas que possuem. Face a isto, a Artilharia Antiaérea tem cada vez mais um papel essencial na protecção dos mesmos. No entanto, para fazer face às novas ameaças, deverá estar equipada com sistemas de defesa aérea de média e grande altitude, de defesa aérea de curto alcance e baixa e muita baixa altitude e meios contra foguetes, artilharia e morteiros. Em Portugal Continental, os centros urbanos mais atractivos são os de Lisboa, Setúbal e Porto, e para as suas protecções antiaéreas são necessárias uma bateria a seis unidades tipo Patriot, seis pelotões Chaparral, cinco secções Stinger e unidades contra foguetes, artilharia e morteiros.
- The MOVE.TE Falls Prevention and Management Program: lessons learnt in the Portuguese contextPublication . Barbosa, Pedro Maciel; Martins, Anabela C; Santos, Paula C; Dias, Ricardo; Pereira, Paulo; Pinto, Bernardo; Moniz, Rubina; Casaca, Ana C; Silva, Rita; Melo, Cristina; Silva, Ana L; Bigode, Maria J; Mendes, Hugo; da Silva, Madalena GomesMOVE.TE is a non-profit participatory physiotherapy platform that aims at translating knowledge in the field of physiotherapy and developing freely available evidence-based physiotherapy programmes targeting the primary care services of the Portuguese National Health service. A group of volunteer academics and clinicians collaborated at different stages and time points to create the first ever falls prevention and management programme and guidance for Physiotherapy in primary care, in Portugal. This report describes this seven-step process. In spite of many challenges, this project constitutes an example of advocacy in physiotherapy for the promotion of better healthcare for older adults.

Sousa, Susana; Correia, Sílvia; Almeida, André Mariz de; Videira, Gabriela; Dias, Ricardo; Ramos, Susana Falardo; Fonseca, JúlioWith the purpose of establishing a consensus around clinical orientations for professionals involved in managing patients with sleep breathing disorders (SBD), an interdisciplinary group of scientific societies involved in this field discussed and reviewed all the published international guidelines from the American Dental Association, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and the European counterparts. Treatment of SBD is multidisciplinary and should be made in concert with the patient, the sleep physician, and the qualified dentist to solve the individual, social, and economic burden of the disease. This consensus document represents the current thinking of a team of Portuguese experts on managing patients with SBD based on the available evidence.
