Abstract(s)
Abstract: Salceda de Caselas Market was built at the end of the eighties, and currently it is in an advanced state of decay and disuse, despite all the attempts by the local council to reverse this trend. The market is a very representative example of the architecture that was built at the end of the last century, with important architectural and structural deficiencies, that represents a recent legacy on which it must take into account the need to start to reflect on how to intervene on it. Salceda de Caselas Market is the object of study of this master project dissertation and the overall goal is the realization of an architectural intervention project in the building. In order to execute this project it was made a preliminary investigation whose objectives were to determine the spatial parameters of todayās markets and identify different degrees of intervention within them. A methodological plan to conduct this investigation was undertaken, using distinct data gathering methods, departing from a documentary analysis focused on the historical research; creation of market identifiable cards, direct inspection and photographs. In a second phase of the investigation, a three markets multi-case study was performed. The information was analysed in a qualitative and quantitative way to shape the central ideas corresponding to the initially identified goals. This dissertation is divided into two parts: written pieces and designed pieces. The written pieces consist of research in the project area: a descriptive and explanatory report, general and specific technical conditions, measurements, budget and the materials map. The designed pieces consist of the base project and execution project. The conclusions extracted from the spatial parameters study of the current markets are the polyvalence as a consequence of his cross-wise program and the importance of achieve an open nature market to encourage the closeness laws. By studying different degrees intervention in markets, it can be deduced that the market brings environmental and urban conditions to reality; the importance of its location is reinforced, and, regardless of its classification, the defense of built heritage is maintained. These factors result in a renovation proposal for the Salceda de Caselas Market, which aims to strengthen links with the urban environment and open the market to the outside with the creation of various transitional spaces. The original structure will keep his place and a new skin that seeks to link the building with the natural and rural environment will be created. It is suggested a program with transversal recommendations to the original market, which would take place in multipurpose spaces.
