Abstract(s)
The phenomenon of transition between the academic world and the labor market is an important milestone in the lives of younger people. For this phase to be successful, higher education institutions and companies help young people to enter the labor market through internships. With this study, we sought to investigate the role of Perceived Employability in the relationship between Internship Quality and Self-Efficacy in the Transition to Work. A cross-sectional study analyzed a sample of 237 individuals, who were still studying in higher education and/or who had already completed their higher education studies, aged up to 40 years. We also tried to find out to what extent, the realization or not of the internship, presents significant differences, in relation to the variables Self-efficacy in the Transition to Work and Perceived Employability. The results obtained point to the relevance of the quality of the internship experience, and not just the fact that it was carried out, that is, no significant differences were found in the variables under study, just because the internship existed. However, the significant effects of the quality of the internship (for those who did it) on Self-Efficacy in the Transition to Work and on Perceived Employability were proven. It was also possible to prove that Perceived Employability mediates, in a partial and significant way, the relationship between the quality of the internship and Self-efficacy in the Transition to Work. This study thus highlights the role of internships, particularly those that offer quality in terms of support and encouragement, linked to the supervision of the internship tutor, as well as psychosocial aspects such as the variety of tasks and learning opportunities. The quality of internship is thus evidenced as an essential variable in the construction of self-efficacy of recent graduates, when entering the labor market.
