Abstract(s)

This study is a part of o line of investigation no the PSP’s performance within the scope of major political events at the Major Political Events Laboratory Research Centre of the Higher Institute of Police Sciences and Homeland Security. The method, following a qualitative approach, consisted in analysing the discourse of the channels RTP1, SIC e TVI, about the PSP’s performance in major political events. To this end, a corpus consisting of 37 news items from 1 pm and 8 pm was used, which, after a complete transcription, was subjected to a content analysis. The main results obtained revealed a mostly descriptive speech, namely about the event; there was also a prevalence of direct speech by the protesters, to the detriment of the PSP; concerning the police action, it was found that it is mainly described, and the reasons that justify it are presented in the background; about the images displayed, they demonstrate mostly demonstrators and police without confrontation.
