As part of the Master’s Degree in Communication Design at College of Arts and Design Matosinhos, this project arises from an interest in finding new means of creation in the field of graphic design. With this in mind, this research project arises to explore the practice of parametric and participatory design in the creation of visual identities, something that reflects the role of the client and the public as active participants in this exercise. The project seeks to answer the following research question: To what extent can the combination of Parametric and Participatory Design increase the potential of visual identities? To answer these questions, a practice-based methodology was structured, initially focusing on theoretical and contextual research, as well as interviews with designers and creative coders in order to understand how this practice applies in real contexts. Subsequently, the creation of two web-accessible parametric tools, combined with user testing, allowed us to identify key elements and conclusions that consolidated the study of this practice. The results suggest the potential of this approach in creating flexible visual identities, highlighting the role of the public as part of the graphic exploration of identity and, consequently, influencing the public’s perception of identity itself.por
