Abstract(s)
The objective of this study was to identify and to describe the characteristics of Human Figure Drawing in adults with intellectual disabilities and to evaluate the development items after the implementation of a Dance Movement Therapy intervention program, that combines the creative and expressive qualities of dance with a psychotherapeutic approach. The program consisted of 16 sessions lasting 1 hour, held twice a week. A group of 13 adults with intellectual disabilities has participated. Before and after the program, the Human Figure Drawing test was done aiming of evaluating body knowledge through the rating of developmental items (Koppitz, 2000), which would indicate possible effects on the cognitive development and the maturity of the participants. After the intervention, the results indicated a significant increase in the number of details/developmental elements in the Human Figure Drawing, suggesting that there was an increase in participants' body knowledge at the end of the program. That could indicate a possible progression of the maturity or the cognitive development of the participants.
