Abstract(s)
Com o passar dos anos, tem-se verificado uma preocupação cada vez maior relativamente
às questões de salvaguarda e conservação do património construído. Atualmente, o cenário
de abandono e degradação de elementos essenciais da nossa história é uma constante,
dando como exemplo o Património Ferroviário que se encontra desativado.
Com a diminuição da utilização do comboio como principal meio de transporte e a falta de
atratividade para o uso do mesmo, o encerramento sucessivo de linhas ferroviárias é
inevitável, tendo como consequência o abandono das respetivas infraestruturas,
nomeadamente estações, apeadeiros e outros edifícios.
Torna-se cada vez mais urgente a recuperação e requalificação do património desativado,
sendo os processos de reabilitação ferramentas essenciais para esse propósito,
estabelecendo a ligação entre o passado e o presente.
Assim, esta dissertação propõe a reabilitação da Estação Ferro-Fluvial Barreiro Mar e da
sua envolvente, que se encontram em estado de abandono e degradação, situação bem
presente e visível. O objetivo será revitalizar o local que outrora desempenhou um papel
muito importante, como ponto de partida e chegada de pessoas e mercadorias,
demonstrando a importância do Caminho de Ferro na história do Barreiro, representado pelo
seu vasto Património Ferroviário.
A proposta de reabilitação terá como princípio a preservação da memória e a identidade do
local, readaptando-o a novos usos, com base nas exigências do presente e do futuro, numa
perspetiva de sustentabilidade e de turismo.
Over the years, there has been an increasing concern regarding the issues of safeguarding and conservation of the built heritage. Currently, the scenario of abandonment and degradation of essential elements of our history is a constant, giving as an example the Railway Heritage that is deactivated. With the decrease in the use of the train as the main means of transport, and the lack of attractiveness for its use, the successive closure of railway lines is inevitable, resulting in the abandonment of the respective infrastructures, namely railway stations, railway halts and other buildings. The recovery and requalification of deactivated heritage is becoming increasingly urgent, and rehabilitation processes are essential tools for this purpose, establishing the link between the past and the present. Thus, this dissertation proposes the rehabilitation of the Barreiro Mar Railway-River Station and its surroundings, which are in a state of abandonment and degradation, a very present and visible situation. The objective will be to revitalize the place that once played a very important role, as a point of departure and arrival for people and goods, demonstrating the importance of the Railway in the history of Barreiro, represented by its vast Railway Heritage. The rehabilitation project will have as its principle the preservation of the memory and identity of the place, readapting it to new uses, based on the demands of the present and the future, from a perspective of sustainability and tourism.
