Abstract(s)
As bases de dados utilizadas foram: PubMed-Medline, Scopus, Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online), LILACS (Latin-American scientific literature in health sciences) e Scopus up to January 2024.
Objectives: To evaluate the quality of the articles and the most frequent types of injuries in children who have suffered abuse or maltreatment. Materials and Methods: This review was conducted in accordance with the guidelines established in PRISMA. The following research question was addressed: What is the prevalence of oral and orofacial injuries in children and adolescents who have been victims of abuse? The databases used were: PubMed-Medline, Scopus, Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online), LILACS (Latin-American scientific literature in health sciences) and Scopus up to January 2024. Results: Initially, a total of 3672 articles were identified. After analyzing the title and abstract, 63 articles remained for full reading. In the end, after all the inclusion and exclusion criteria had been applied, 56 articles did not meet the eligibility criteria, leaving a final sample of 7 articles for full reading. Conclusion: There is a significant gap in the literature regarding orofacial injuries resulting from child abuse. Variability in reports and a lack of specific details about these injuries, together with under-reporting by health professionals, contribute to the scarcity of available information. Improving knowledge and awareness of child abuse can positively influence the formulation of public policies aimed at protecting children and holding perpetrators accountable.
