A guerra é um assunto de importância vital para os Estados, sendo imprescindível um
estudo profundo e contínuo, num esforço de compreensão da forma como os conflitos se
desenrolam na atualidade para que as forças se possam adaptar e empregar as capacidades
mais adequadas, de acordo com as ameaças e riscos que enfrentam.
Os conflitos da atualidade têm mostrado grande complexidade, apresentando
características distintivas dos conflitos convencionais entre estados, o que tem originado o
aparecimento de diversas denominações: novas guerras, revolução nos assuntos militares,
guerras híbridas ou guerras de quarta geração, entre tantas outras.
Portugal tem participado em missões militares internacionais de paz através da
projeção de forças nacionais destacadas, contribuindo para a segurança internacional. É nas
forças nacionais destacadas que encontramos o objeto do presente trabalho.
Neste trabalho partiu-se da análise documental para, através do estudo de caso
comparativo do empenhamento de forças nacionais destacadas em três teatros de operações,
aprofundar o conhecimento sobre as características das guerras de quarta geração.
Seguidamente, efetuou-se a análise das observações, lições e boas práticas recolhidas nesses
teatros de operações e identificaram-se recomendações que se podem constituir como
melhorias do desempenho das forças nacionais destacadas em participações futuras em
missões internacionais.
War is a topic of vital importance for states, a thorough and continuous study is essential to understand how conflicts are currently unfolding so that forces can adapt and employ the most appropriate capabilities, according to the threats and risks they face. Today's conflicts have shown great complexity, presenting distinctive characteristics of conventional conflicts between states, which has led to the appearance of several denominations such as: new wars, revolution in military affairs, hybrid wars or fourthgeneration warfare, among others. Portugal has participated in international military peace missions through the projection of deployed national forces, contributing to international security. The object of this work is the deployed national forces. This work started with a documentary analysis to improve the knowledge of the characteristics of fourth-generation warfare, through the comparative case study of the commitment of deployed national forces in three theaters of operations. Then, the observations, lessons and best practices collected in these theatres of operations were carried out and we identified recommendations that may constitute improvements in the performance of deployed national forces in future participations in international missions.
