Abstract(s)
Abstract: The “Atalaia de Lovelhe” is a watchtower of the XVII century. It belongs to the defence system of the Portuguese village of Vila Nova de Cerveira. It was a complementary strategic point of defence of the main system. Now a day, the fort and its environment are unused and abandoned. Its isolate position in the mountain, the vegetation growing everywhere and the absence of signals contributes to the unknowledge and the devaluation of this heritage object. The first step in this investigation was to use different techniques of collecting information for understand the object of study and its environment. Then, search for authors and theories about the intervention in the architectural heritage, and the military architecture of the XVII century. That contributed to decode this initial information and to form a conclusion about what really needs the fort and its environment. Second step was to search for projects that give support to architectural or arqueológical heritage. Comparing these projects should performing the first objective of this investigation, and give a strategy of how are going on these kind of interventions now a days. As soon as this was reveal, it started the delimitation and the choice of similar interventions under similar conditions to the fort. The third step was to choose, analyze and compare three chosen buildings. This allowed having clues about what kind of intervention could work in the analyzed area of the fort. At last, to respond for the second objective, the decision taken was to build an interpretation centre, near the fort, for a revaluing operation of the area. The building must not disturb the fort with his shape, materiality or position. It should be easily removable. Other proposition is to recuperate the environment to ensure the visibility of the watchtower, and improve the route around the fort giving a best perception of it.
