Abstract(s)
This report presents a study conducted as part of the Master’s in Education program, specifically within the “Teaching Practicum in 1st and 2nd Cycles” course, and carried out in a fourth-grade class in Basic Education. The research falls under the Development for Citizenship curriculum area, with a focus on Sexuality Education. The guiding research question was: How can children’s awareness of Sexuality Education be developed in the 1st cycle of Basic Education? In this study, a qualitative, practice-based approach was adopted, enabling critical reflection on professional practice in the real classroom context and an understanding of how the pedagogical activities implemented - centered on gender equality, emotional regulation, and privacy/consent - contribute to the deconstruction of stereotypes and the promotion of values of respect and diversity. The results obtained demonstrate progress in the deconstruction of gender stereotypes and in the affirmation of values of equality and respect among the children, particularly about respect for their own bodies and those of others. It is concluded that, even in the 1st cycle, carefully designed playful activities can elicit critical awareness of Sexuality Education. From the standpoint of teaching practice, it was shown that the intentional combination of individual and collective moments deepens learning and provides essential contributions for future pedagogical interventions aimed at forming reflective, egalitarian, and inclusive citizens.
