Abstract(s)
A pesquisa
significativa
This study examines the social commitment of six cultural organizations in Portugal to youth education through their artistic activities. It investigates how these organizations, located in urban and peripheral areas, implement participatory practices to foster the critical-creative (dis)engagement of young people. The research, using a qualitative approach with case studies, is based on interviews with cultural coordinators and mediators, as well as an analysis of institutional documents. The results reveal that although the organizations acknowledge the importance of social commitment, the implementation of participatory practices that can contribute to this goal faces challenges. An essential element identified is the relationship between mediators, professional artists, and non-professional artists (community members) in the artistic process. This synergy among different agents is crucial to ensuring that practices are culturally relevant and effective in fostering citizenship and creative fruition. The study concludes that the qualification of mediators, the quality of participation, and the monitoring of social impact are crucial elements to ensure the promotion of social skills in individuals and, subsequently, in the community dimension. The research contributes to the debate on the importance of cultural organizations in non-formal education and emphasizes the need to adapt artistic practices to cultural changes, fostering a deeper connection with young audiences through collaborative creative experiences with transdisciplinary approaches. It concludes that co-creation is essential to strengthen cultural vitality and meaningfully engage communities
