O estudo da história é algo que permite não só conhecermos o nosso passado,
como contribui para percebermos os motivos de sermos o que somos enquanto pessoas,
povo e país.
Assim, em todas as áreas de actividade importa entender a sua origem e
evolução nesse sentido, no caso especifico do estudo a nível da marinha, importa desde
logo não esquecer que Portugal foi pioneiro nesta área tendo contribuído com
conhecimento de construção marítima, técnicos e de navegação que influenciaram para
sempre as técnicas e tácticas navais.
Assim, neste trabalho temos por objectivo abordar o tema específico das tácticas
de combate nos navios à vela. Para isso, iremos realizar toda uma contextualização
histórica sobre a evolução e desenvolvimento dos navios e das tácticas navais,
abordando alguns dos pontos que consideramos mais emblemáticos o desenvolvimento
das embarcações e sua artilharia, a coluna, e o navio de linha, recorrendo à apresentação
de batalhas que representam bem este tipo de tácticas.
