Abstract(s)
This investigation had the general objective of understanding the importance of the work of social workers in multidisciplinary teams at schools. And its specific objectives are: to understand how social workers are hired in schools; explore social worker practice in a school context; understand the social worker’s role as a team; evaluate the benefits of social work in a school context; understand and evaluate the difficulties and gaps in the school when they do not have a social worker; reflect on the need for collaborative interdisciplinary social work and check whether teachers consider the work of social workers in schools to be important. For this, we developed qualitative research, and carried out interviews using structured data collection instruments with two social workers and a psychologist, and to identify how teachers understand the importance of the social worker's work, an online survey was carried out with a sample of 40 teachers from various groups in the north. It appears that the focus of the school social worker's practice is to intervene with students and families with problems of indiscipline, abandonment and school absenteeism and consequently academic failure. This coordinates with the educational community and social network of the municipality, with a view to resolving the problems in question. And it is clear from teacher surveys that social workers are important and necessary in schools' multidisciplinary teams, regardless of whether the school group (AE) is or is not an educational territory for TEIP priority intervention.
