Abstract(s)
The practice of physical activity has a major impact on the prevention and treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases and is considered a determinant of health. With the increase in the number of children who are overweight or obese at an early age, as well as those with sedentary habits, it is crucial to develop nursing interventions that promote health behaviours, namely the promotion of physical activity, with a focus on empowering children and their families to make informed decisions about their health-disease process. Early childhood, which includes preschool children, is the ideal time to create and adapt healthy habits or change routines. This report reflects the training process, the aim of which is to acquire and develop the common and specific competences of a Specialist Nurse in Child Health and Paediatric Nursing and a Master's Degree in Nursing, in order to provide specialised nursing care to children, young people and families at different stages of development. To this end, the project and reflective methodologies were adopted, as they are underpinned by research and allow problems to be solved through practical actions. The theoretical framework selected to sustain and guide the chosen problem was the philosophy of Family-Centred Care and Nola Pender's Health Promotion Model. During the internship period, various activities were carried out, from researching up-to-date scientific evidence, to the development of information documents and in-service training, with one of the highlights being the implementation of the project "Promoting physical activity in hospitalised pre-school children", the aim of which was to advocate movement and the development of pre-school children through play and games. Through reflection and critical analysis of the experiences and activities developed in the different internship contexts, it was possible to acquire and cement skills in child health and paediatric nursing, as well as raise awareness among health teams of the ease with which interventions promoting physical activity and health behaviours can be implemented, producing health gains.
