O cicloturismo na Serra do Açor

Abstract(s)
O produto cicloturismo e a Serra do Açor, que está localizada na NUT II da Região Centro
de Portugal e NUT III, maioritariamente na Região de Coimbra e com parte da sua área a estender se também à Região Beiras e Serra da Estrela, são as temáticas deste estudo.
Procurou-se estudar as valências que o território possui para o desenvolvimento deste
produto turístico, e consequentemente estabelecer algumas diretrizes que ajudem no
estabelecimento do cicloturismo como um produto âncora da região.
No sentido de alcançar esse desiderato procedeu-se a todo um intenso trabalho de campo,
conciliado com trabalho de pesquisa, bem como realização de catorze entrevistas a representantes
de entidades privadas e públicas consideradas de interesse para o estudo: Municípios, empresas
de animação turística e agências de viagens, marcas de bicicletas, Turismo Centro de Portugal,
Aldeias Históricas de Portugal, Rota Vicentina.
O estudo indica que a Serra do Açor revela potencial para o desenvolvimento deste
produto turístico, alicerçada em toda a riqueza de património natural e cultural, mas também em
algumas infraestruturas (e.g. estradas em bom estado e tranquilas) detetando-se, porém, algumas
lacunas no que toca a outro tipo de infraestruturas, mas principalmente a nível de promoção e da
interação coordenada dos vários agentes.
Por fim averiguou-se que o trabalho em rede poderá ser um caminho a optar para colmatar
as deficiências existentes, de forma a fortalecer este destino e torná-lo numa referência no
panorama do cicloturismo. Responsabilizando uma entidade especificamente para a gestão e
desenvolvimento desse trabalho em rede, encarregue, entre outras coisas, da divulgação e
promoção do destino, do estabelecimento de parcerias e formação direcionada aos vários
stakeholders locais e ainda limpeza e manutenção regular das infraestruturas, a verdade é que a
conclusão a retirar é a de que a Serra do Açor poderá tornar-se num local de destaque para o
cicloturismo, o que contribuirá de forma positiva para a economia e para a competitividade
turística global da região.
The focus of this study is the development of a tourism product based on the use of the bicycle (cyclotourism) in the Serra do Açor territory, located in the Center Region of Portugal, and more precisily mostly in Coimbra Region but as well with some of its area located in Beira e Serra da Estrela Region. The study tries to analise the attributes that this territory have that can be important to the development of a tourism producto based on the bicycle, and then create some guide lines that can help on the stablish of the cyclotourism as one of the main tourism product of this region. In order to achieve this goal, the author of this dissertation proceeds to an intense field work mixed with some research, as well as fourteen interviews to some important stakeholders of this project, such as municipalities, Center of Portugal Tourism, Historical Villages of Portugal, tourism animation companies, bike brands, and others. At the end of the study, the conclusion is that tourism in network can be a good path to fight the existing deficiencies, in order to reinforce the destination and make it a good reference in cycle tourism market, and one of the best places in Portugal for that product. Creating an entity specifically responsible for the management and development of the network, in charge of promoting the destination, establishing partnerships and educating local stakeholders, as well as the systematically cleaning and maintenance of the infrastructures, the truth is that Serra do Açor can fulfill the goal of being one the best destinations in Portugal for cycle tourism, and a world reference in this product.
