Abstract(s)
This internship report describes the learning process in the development of the common and specific competencies of a specialist nurse with the aim of acquiring a Master's Degree in Maternal Health and Obstetric Nursing, promoting critical reflection on these competencies, as well as the development of the individual internship project. The theme of the internship project is "Strengths-Based Care: A Postpartum Plan for a Positive Fourth Trimester Experience" and arose from an idea to develop an instrument that would allow the postpartum period to be planned and organized, thus contributing to adaptation in this period, with Laurie Gottlieb's Strengths-Based Nursing Care guiding this process. The methodology used was reflective practice during Clinical Teaching. A descriptive exploratory study with a mixed approach was carried out with the research question "What are the difficulties experienced by the puerperal woman or couple in the postpartum period?" and all ethical considerations were ensured. The study corroborated the results of the scoping review regarding maternal difficulties and concerns in the fourth trimester, with the exception of the added difficulties related to multiculturalism, since the sample was mostly Portuguese. The postpartum plan was drawn up with the 11 items that emerged from the study. It can be concluded that the postpartum plan is an innovative concept, since pregnant women/couples focus on drawing up the birth plan, unaware of or not valuing the postpartum plan. However, most of the participants considered planning to be one of the strengths or strategies for a positive experience of the fourth trimester.
