Abstract(s)
futuros.
This study aimed at understanding the impact of pre-retirement and retirement on police officers of the Public Security Police Force, as the transition from professional life to preretirement and retirement may be experienced by these workers as a moment of anguish, fear, anxiety and loneliness. The break with the professional routine and everything that involves it, from feelings of sharing among peers, sense of belonging and defense of the common good of society, to established social and institutional relationships, may be an experience marked by negative impacts that will condition a good adaptation to the new stage of life - retirement. The search for strategies to overcome the negative impacts of this phase is fundamental to contribute to the quality of life of these professionals. The present theoretical study allowed us to state that this concern is on the agenda of many countries and Portugal is no exception. Internationally implemented good practices were identified and the project underway in Coimbra District Command presents itself as a proposal that may become a national model of intervention with police officers at the end of their careers. Finally, there are also suggestions for future studies.
