Abstract(s)
This Project falls within the scope of the curricular area of the last two years of elementary school, and it was developed with students from the 5th grade at primary school Alvaro Velho in Barreiro, Portugal. It is intended not only to investigate the aspects that students value in the objects of everyday life, taking into account the relationship between Form and Function in the process of choosing an object of daily use, but also realize if students considered the Form and Function of objects as fundamental and interrelated before the beginning of this project. This research is focused on the projects that students developed in the classroom and in the constant checking of their recognition of the existing advantages out of the relationship between Form and Function, as well as the factors influencing the choice of objects of daily use. Thus, it was possible to analyze the evolution of students throughout the process. This project aimed not only to convey design knowledge to students, but also to encourage them to observe and make better choices taking into account the functions of the objects they choose. The results presented in this study show clearly the way students consider the relationship between Form and Function in the objects of their daily use, the learning process throughout the development of the project, and its application during the activities completed in class.
