Abstract(s)
O objetivo do estudo é compreender
díades utente- fisioterapeuta (14 participantes: 7 utentes e 7 fisioterapeutas).
INTRODUCTION: After a stroke, many patients exhibit sedentary behavior for long periods of time, with well-identified risks. However, it is unclear how discharge preparation is addressed regarding this specific issue. The objective of the study is to understand the perspective of the physiotherapist-patient dyad regarding the intervention used in discharge preparation, particularly in reducing prolonged sedentary behavior in adult and elderly patients with subacute stroke. METHODS: A qualitative study with thematic analysis was conducted, with data collected through semi-structured individual interviews, audio-recorded, with patient-physiotherapist dyads (14 participants: 7 patients and 7 physiotherapists). Inductive thematic analysis was used, in which the data were transcribed, analysed, coded, and categorized before being consolidated into themes and subthemes. RESULTS: Four themes emerged: 'Different understandings of the expression prolonged sedentary behavior,' 'Intervention strategies to reduce prolonged sedentary behavior during discharge preparation,' 'Factors that facilitate the implementation of intervention strategies to reduce prolonged sedentary behavior during discharge preparation,' and 'Factors that hinder the implementation of intervention strategies to reduce prolonged sedentary behavior during discharge preparation”. CONCLUSION: The perceptions of the dyad regarding current practice in the context of hospital admission for patients with subacute stroke highlight the challenges and opportunities in reducing prolonged sedentary behavior. These include the need to clarify and standardize physiotherapists' understanding. Factors identified as facilitators and barriers may provide useful insights for implementing strategies to improve interventions aimed at breaking prolonged sedentary behavior. The study emphasizes the need to prioritize this topic in discharge preparation and future research to better understand the health benefits associated with these interventions.
