With regard to patient communication, telemedicine enables the exchange of patient-related information with healthcare providers and/or related organizations using digital technology, such as radiographic and photographic records and healthcare-related consultations. Telemedicine increases communication between specialists, for example, in cases requiring a multidisciplinary approach, and allows patients to easily consult a specialist for a preliminary consultation, clinical follow-up, or treatment monitoring. One of these new communication channels is expanding through medical applications for tablets or smartphones, which have shown positive feedback for improving the education system and health services. In this context, the exchange of information in the field of healthcare through digital technology has expanded in recent decades, and the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of telemedicine, given the need to offer healthcare consultations in an emergency scenario that requires social distancing.
