Abstract(s)
Historically, sports and journalism have been worlds dominated by men. If we add sports journalism to these two worlds, this situation becomes even more evident. Statistics show us that women are the majority in terms of frequency of journalism courses, in Portugal, but are nevertheless in a very small number in sports newsrooms. With this study, the goal is to understand why this situation happens, and if nowadays, any kind of discrimination is committed against women, that forbid them to work, or if, in the contrary, women are not interested to work in the field of sports journalism, because they usually don’t practice sports. Several women journalists were interviewed, in the sports area, from different media, to talk about their experience, and to give their perspective about this subject, helping in that way in replying to the main questions of this investigation.
