Abstract(s)
Professionals working at residential care homes for at-risk children and youth deal with stressful and emotionally draining situations daily, resulting from the high demands of their professional practice. These factors often lead to exhaustion and energy depletion, exacerbated by scarce resources, demanding schedules, and insufficient staffing, all of which are factors that contribute to burnout. The objective of this study was to understand the work-related factors that can contribute to the development of burnout and identify the emotional impacts associated with the work environment, as well as the feelings of the Educational Teams (EE) and Support Teams (EA) regarding the experiences of children and youth, marked by traumatic experiences, and their perception of the demands and challenges inherent to their work. The research was based on a qualitative methodology, supported by eleven semi-structured interviews conducted with the EE and EA professionals, who, as an inclusion criterion, had to be working at a residential care home for children and youth in the North Fluminense region. The collected testimonies, organized into categories, reveal the daily lives of these professionals, their routines, the challenges they face, and the emotional impact all of this has on them, highlighting their vulnerability to developing burnout. The results were obtained through contextual content analysis of the interviews. The data are presented in categories, with each group accompanied by a corresponding analysis and discussion, based on existing literature. Keywords: Residential Care, Children and Youth, Educational and Support staff, Burnout.
