Abstract(s)
Pictograms and movement are part of our daily life but there are few examples relating these two themes. The current study, undertaken as a Masters degree project in Information Design, aims to analyse the relevance of introducing movement to a medium that is considered to be mainly analogical. Based on theoretical concepts, case studies and the results of a field work that included interviews, questionnaires and focus group, were created and tested hypothetical proposals to introduce movement to thirteen AIGA system pictograms. Through the exercises undertaken, it was concluded that the introduction of movement may be an important contribution to facilitate the interpretation of pictograms and to allow their evolution to new dimensions, such as fostering civic behaviour, strengthening message context and creating emotional ties.
