This activity report describes, analyses, and reflects on the path developed within the Master’s Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of the Person in the Perioperative Situation, at Egas Moniz School of Health. Its aim was to highlight the learning acquired throughout the clinical placement, the consolidation and development of specialised competences, and their articulation with the theoretical and normative frameworks of Nursing, from a perspective of continuous improvement in professional practice. The clinical placement took place in an Ambulatory Surgery Unit of a hospital in the Lisbon metropolitan area. This setting was characterised by technical, organisational, and relational demands, with the provision of specialised care throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. Perioperave Nursing is presented as a highly diferentiated area, centred on the continuity of care for the person undergoing surgical and anaesthetic intervention, requiring technical rigour, decision-making capacity, risk management, and commitment to patient safety. In this context, the report was supported by Joanne R. Duffy’s Quality-Caring Model, which recognises caring relationships as the core of Nursing practice, articulating the relational, ethical, and humanised dimension of care with quality of care and the promotion of safe environments. The report also included a research project on the specialist nurse’s interventions in the preparation and cleaning of the operating room for surgeries involving people under isolation measures. This study made it possible to deepen reflection on infection prevention and control, the safety of the person, the team, and the surgical environment, as well as on the relevance of standardising practices and ongoing professional training. This path constituted a stage of academic, professional, and personal development, reinforcing the role of the specialist nurse in promoting safe, qualified, and person-centred care, as well as the importance of specialised education and research in the continuous improvement of perioperative practice
