do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico. Desta forma, realizou-se um questionário para se
aprofundar e explorar esta questão, relacionando conceitos inerentes à prática
profissional desta atividade: a motivação e a competência docente.
educação, nomeadamente a motivação e a competência docente.
Currently there are some issues that concern the area of education, especially regarding the professional pedagogical action of teachers of the 1st cycle of basic education. In this way, a questionnaire was carried out to deepen and explore this issue, relating concepts inherent to the professional practice of this activity: motivation and teaching competence. The objective of this study is to understand the conceptions that teachers have about teaching competence and motivation. In this way, it is possible to understand what relationships exist between these two concepts and how they are observable considering professional development. For this purpose, a case study was carried out, of the interpretative paradigm. The participants were 328 elementary school teachers, and a questionnaire was used as a data collection tool. From the results, we can infer that most of the teachers consider themselves to be good teachers, with consideration for the needs and interests of the students, showing good teaching ability in the preparation, planning, and management of various professional situations. Moreover, the vast majority of teachers are motivated and eager to continue to increase the knowledge they already have and, in this way, continue to better serve the interests of the students. Through this study it was possible to better understand the position of teachers in relation to some important concepts to be considered in the area of education, namely motivation and teaching skills.
