| dc.description.abstract | Os megaeventos são encarados como potenciais atrações turísticas, originando impactos antes, durante e após a sua realização, sendo esta a matéria central do presente estudo, usando a Exposição Internacional de Lisboa, realizada em 1998, como estudo de caso na investigação. A Exposição Internacional, que se realizou em Lisboa, de 22 de maio a 30 de setembro de 1998, teve como temática “Os Oceanos: um património para o futuro” e como finalidade celebrar os 500 anos dos Descobrimentos Portugueses. Neste âmbito, pretende-se contribuir para o aumento do conhecimento sobre os impactos dos megaeventos nas comunidades que os recebem, assim como criar uma perspetiva mais fundamentada acerca deste acontecimento tão relevante para Portugal. O objetivo maior é entender a perceção da comunidade local acerca dos impactos da Exposição Internacional de Lisboa. Como resposta a esta questão, foi desenvolvida uma investigação com base numa metodologia mista de recolha de dados. Foram aplicados inquéritos por questionário e entrevistas a diferentes intervenientes, que possibilitaram a reconstrução do evento através das experiências e perceções de memória dos inquiridos e dos entrevistados. Através do tratamento dos dados recolhidos, obtiveram-se resultados que traduzem as principais repercussões do megaevento estudado. Tais resultados proporcionaram diversas reflexões acerca dos impactos turísticos, económicos, políticos, sociais, culturais, físicos e ambientais, bem como a perceção da comunidade envolvente sobre os mesmos. Devido ao facto de a avaliação deste evento já poder incluir uma perspetiva de longo prazo, ambiciona-se que este estudo tenha um contributo importante para a investigação na área do Turismo e dos Eventos em Portugal. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Megaevents are potential tourism attractions having impacts on the surrounding communities before, after, and during its execution. This being the main subject of the present study, using the 1998 Lisbon World Exhibition as a case-study for the investigation. The Lisbon World Exhibition, which took place in Lisbon from the 22nd of March to the 30th of September of 1998, had “The Oceans, a Heritage for the Future” as the main subject and intended to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Portuguese Discoveries. In this study’s scope, the purpose is to increase the knowledge of the impacts of megaevents on host communities, as well as to create a well-founded perspective about such a relevant event in Portugal. Its objective is to better understand the local community’s perception of the impacts of Lisbon World Exhibition. To answer this question, research using a mixed methodology of data collection was conducted. Questionnaires and interviews were made to different stakeholders, making it possible to reconstruct the event through the in-memory perceptions of the respondents and the interviewed people. By treating the collected data, results that describe the main repercussions of the megaevent were obtained. Such results enabled the creation of many reflections on the tourism, economic, political, social, cultural, physical, and environmental impacts, as well as the perception of the surrounding community about them. Due to more than twenty years passing since its execution, enabling for a long-term perspective, it is believed that this study can have a significant impact on future investigations around tourism and events in Portugal. | pt_PT |
