The relationship between hygiene, safety and absenteeism at work is complex and difficult to describe, but this is where the relevance for current work relationships lies: the need to develop effective prevention strategies to promote a safe and healthy work environment. In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the importance of hygiene and safety in the workplace, not only as a legal obligation, but also as an essential investment for the sustainability and success of companies. In this context, this study aims to explore the relationship between Occupational Safety and Hygiene (OSH) practices and absenteeism, using as a case study a food distribution company in the southern region. The investigation will focus on the relationship between hygiene, safety and absenteeism, investigating how these practices affect the incidence of occupational illnesses and accidents at work in the company under study, focusing on the department preparing products for supply in the store. The general objective will be to evaluate the impact of these practices on absenteeism, more specifically, to analyze the current state of safety practices, the causes of absenteeism, the relationship with sociodemographic factors and propose recommendations for improvements. This study investigated the impact of occupational health and safety practices on absenteeism, based on the analysis of occupational diseases and work accidents in the company under study. Occupational diseases resulting from inadequate working conditions and work accidents were identified as the main factors for absenteeism, even with renewed safety measures in the company. The research revealed an organizational safety culture, highlighting regular training and preventive policies, but highlighting areas for improvement, such as internal communication about such practices and the reinforcement of monitoring systems. This work made it possible to apply the knowledge acquired throughout the academic career in a real context, offering relevance for the continuous improvement of SHT practices and for the promotion of safer and healthier working environments.
