Hate speech against the LGBTQIA+ community has increased in the media and social networks, constituting a human rights problem that challenges democratic societies. The critical reflection on the factors involved requires socio-scientific deepening. This qualitative study seeks to understand how hate speech emerges in the “ABCLGBTQIA+ Campaign. Being part of it is learning”, the repertoire of arguments it uses and the polarization it adopts in each enunciation. Educational and training strategies that can be used for its deconstruction and prevention are also indicated. The corpus consisted of news, opinion articles and comments on social media networks. The process of codification of the statements was supported by MAXQDA. The study shows that hate speech circulates in the media, has roots in the heteronormative regimen, is associated with the far right and gives primacy to prejudice and belief against scientific knowledge. The results call for democratic debate on freedom of expression in the media and advise the inclusion of hate speech in the curriculum of Basic and Secondary Education, along with the teacher training.
