Abstract(s)
A presente investigação, analisa o percurso histórico e institucional do ingresso da mulher
na Polícia de Segurança Pública, entre o final do Estado Novo e a consolidação
democrática (1972–1992). Através de uma abordagem diacrónica e crítica, o estudo
compreende os desafios, resistências e transformações associados à presença feminina
numa Instituição tradicionalmente masculina. Explora-se a relação entre o contexto
sociopolítico português e a progressiva abertura da PSP às mulheres, destacando-se as
mudanças legislativas, culturais e operacionais. O trabalho evidencia o papel ativo das
mulheres-polícias na redefinição das práticas policiais, assim como as barreiras
estruturais que ainda persistem, nomeadamente a sub-representação em funções
operacionais. Com base na análise de literatura e determinados dados estatísticos,
propõem-se recomendações alinhadas com políticas públicas nacionais de igualdade de
género. A investigação contribui para a valorização do protagonismo feminino na
segurança pública e para uma reflexão sobre a construção de instituições mais inclusivas.
This research analyses the historical and institutional journey of women's entry into the Public Security Police between the end of the Estado Novo and democratic consolidation (1972-1992). Through a diachronic and critical approach, the study understands the challenges, resistance and transformations associated with the presence of women in a traditionally male institution. It explores the relationship between the Portuguese socio political context and the progressive opening up of the PSP to women, highlighting legislative, cultural and operational changes. The work highlights the active role of policewomen in redefining police practices, as well as the structural barriers that still persist, namely under-representation in operational roles. Based on an analysis of the literature and certain statistical data, recommendations are proposed in line with national public policies for gender equality. The research contributes to valorising the role of women in public security and to reflecting on the construction of more inclusive institutions.
