As questões ligadas ao desenvolvimento urbano e das sociedades estão em constante discussão, seja pelo crescimento descontrolado ou sem planeamento das cidades, pela segregação social e territorial e pelos movimentos de migração dos povos, entre tantos outros tópicos. Estudar a relação do homem com o espaço em que vive, e dos homens entre si, permite-nos compreender as formações sociais atuais e dá-nos ferramentas para contribuir para uma evolução positiva da sociedade e da cidade.
Um espaço urbano que permita e promova os encontros sociais e que possibilite a interação entre membros de grupos diferentes será responsável pela formação de uma sociedade mais coesa, capaz de produzir mentes mais criativas a trabalharem a favor do desenvolvimento desta sociedade.
Issues related to urban development and societies are in constant discussion, either by uncontrolled growth or without planning of cities, by social and spatial segregation, by the migration movements of people, among many other topics. Study the relation of man to the space in which he lives and men to each other enables us to understand the current social formations and gives us tools to contribute to a positive development of society and the city. An urban space that allows and promotes social gatherings and that enables interaction between different groups of members will be responsible for the formation of a more cohesive society able to produce more creative minds to work for the development of this society.
