O comparativo de inferioridade em Língua Gestual Portuguesa: uma ausência motivada?

Este breve estudo pretende descrever os processos de gradalização nos adjetivos em Língua Gestual Portuguesa (LGP). A investigação neste campo é escassa, havendo alguns artigos científicos para a American Sign Language (Wilbur, 2012; Koulidobrova, 2023). O interesse adveio de não conhecermos estudo semelhante para a LGP e de termos notado que tanto o grau comparativo como o superlativo se socorrem de mecanismos distintos das línguas orais, mas os mecanismos de marcação de grau são semelhantes a outras línguas gestuais/de sinais. Assim, através da consulta a informantes nativos, docentes de LGP, tentámos compreender como se materializam os graus dos adjetivos em LGP. Pedimos-lhes que produzissem frases nos diversos graus e que refletissem sobre essa produção. Este trabalho começa, pois, por uma brevíssima descrição da LGP, do sistema adjetival noutras línguas e, por fim, apresentamos os resultados e apontaremos algumas conclusões que assentam na nossa análise de dados e na reflexão dos informantes.
This brief study aims to describe the processes of gradation in adjectives within Portuguese Sign Language (LGP). Research in this area remains limited, with some scientific contributions available for American Sign Language (e.g., Wilbur, 2012; Koulidobrova, 2023). Our interest stems from the absence of similar studies focused on LGP and from observations suggesting that both comparative and superlative forms rely on mechanisms distinct from those found in spoken languages—though they share similarities with other sign languages. Through the analysis of example sentences, we seek to provide an overview of adjective gradation in LGP. The study begins with a brief description of LGP and the adjectival system in other languages, followed by our research findings, discussion, and concluding remarks.
