The domestic cat (Felis catus) is a very popular pet, present on every continent. However, it poses a risk to biodiversity through predation, competition, disease transmission and other ecological impacts. As such it has played a critical role in the disappearance of several species. A large effort has resulted in a large body of scientific literature on the impacts of domestic cats on wildlife and how to manage them. However, a review in 2022 showed that the variety of contexts and approaches to the study of the impacts of domestic cats complicate the generalization of information and management. In this systematic review, the literature on the impacts of domestic cats from 2022 to 2025 is summarized. The results indicate that many of the challenges persist, ranging from inconsistent classification of cat populations to taxon biases in impact assessments, with invertebrates gathering less attention, and in study locations, with more studies from developed countries. These trends highlight the need for a global framework to enable a concerted approach that can accommodate context specificities while addressing the problem on a global scale.
