| dc.description.abstract | Nos últimos anos, o número de gatos como animais de companhia tem vindo a aumentar em Portugal e em todo o mundo. Para além disso, ocorreu também uma melhoria dos cuidados médico-veterinários e no maneio dos gatos domésticos, que originou o aumento da esperança média de vida destes animais. Os animais de estimação geriátricos representam aproximadamente cinquenta por cento a nível mundial dos pacientes veterinários, e necessitam de cuidados diferenciados e adequados à sua idade. Com o envelhecimento, os gatos sofrem alterações oculares fisiológicas e patológicas que é importante conhecer. Este trabalho teve como objetivo fazer uma descrição das alterações oculares mais frequentes em gatos geriátricos. É necessário diferenciar as alterações oculares fisiológicas associadas ao envelhecimento e aquelas que são patológicas, uma vez que frequentemente estes processos podem ser confundidos. O diagnóstico precoce vai permitir implementar um tratamento eficaz e assim reduzir as consequências que podem evoluir e envolver outras complicações que comprometem a vida do animal. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | In recent years, the number of cats as pets has been increasing in Portugal and worldwide. In addition, there was also an improvement in veterinary care and management of domestic cats, which led to increased average life expectancy of these animals. Geriatric pets represent approximately fifty percent of veterinary patients and require differentiated appropriate care to their age. With aging, cats suffer physiological and pathological eye changes that is important to know. This study aimed to make a description of the most frequent eye changes in geriatric cats. It is necessary to differentiate the physiological changes associated with aging and those that are pathological, since often these processes can be confused. Early diagnosis will allow to implement an effective treatment and thus reduce the consequences that may evolve and involve other complications that compromise the life of the animal. | pt_PT |
