Abstract(s)
É necessário diferenciar as alterações oculares fisiológicas
comprometem a vida do animal.
In recent years, the number of cats as pets has been increasing in Portugal and worldwide. In addition, there was also an improvement in veterinary care and management of domestic cats, which led to increased average life expectancy of these animals. Geriatric pets represent approximately fifty percent of veterinary patients and require differentiated appropriate care to their age. With aging, cats suffer physiological and pathological eye changes that is important to know. This study aimed to make a description of the most frequent eye changes in geriatric cats. It is necessary to differentiate the physiological changes associated with aging and those that are pathological, since often these processes can be confused. Early diagnosis will allow to implement an effective treatment and thus reduce the consequences that may evolve and involve other complications that compromise the life of the animal.
