Os avanços tecnológicos e o enorme fluxo de comunicações existentes, exigem a todas
as organizações de grande dimensão a adoção de um sistema de gestão da informação de
modo a permitir a atualização e organização de toda a informação.
Conhecer a organização e as atividades nela exercidas são requisitos essenciais para a
aplicação de um modelo de gestão da informação adequado às necessidades e por forma a
corrigir o máximo de vulnerabilidades detectadas.
O estudo de um modelo de gestão da informação torna-se assim importante para a
Marinha Portuguesa contribuindo para a organização e otimização das unidades
operacionais.
A análise e comparação dos modelos permite então enunciar os aspetos positivos,
retirar conclusões e apresentar novas formas de otimizar o atual modelo.
Os avanços nas comunicações militares e nos sistemas de informação disponibilizam
um moderno comando militar com informação e dados mais rápidos e mais eficientes do
que noutra altura do passado. Estas novas capacidades desafiam no entanto a habilidade
dos comandos em assimilar um aumento do fluxo de informação, sem sobrecarregar.
Considera-se eficiente quando permite o fornecimento de informação relevante à pessoa
certa no momento certo e na forma correta, de modo a facilitar o esclarecimento do
panorama e o apoio na tomada de decisão. A informação é o produto de um processamento
de dados e a sua gestão componente integral da guerra. Hoje em dia, em qualquer organização, civil ou militar, é dada, cada vez mais, atenção
à informação como recurso estratégico para o cumprimento da missão.
A Marinha, como instituição de grande dimensão que é, requer grandes volumes de
troca e partilha de informação com o meio envolvente com o qual interage.
De igual modo, também a NATO se encontra num processo transformacional no qual
se destaca a importância da partilha de informação com recurso a uma efetiva
infraestrutura informacional apoiada por uma infraestrutura de rede robusta.
Em suma, Gestão da Informação é assim o reconhecimento que a quantidade de
informação e os dados donde ela provém, são para a Marinha um importante recurso e,
como tal, deve ser gerido ao longo de todo o seu ciclo de vida.

Know the organization and the activities that it carried out are essential requirements for the implementation of an information management model appropriate to needs and in order to fix the maximum detected vulnerabilities. The study of an information management model becomes so important for the Portuguese Navy contributing to the organization and optimization of the operating units. The analysis and comparison of the models allows stating the positive aspects then, draw conclusions and present new ways to optimize the current model. Advances in military communications and information systems provide a modern military command with information and data faster and more efficient than other times of the past. These new capabilities challenge however the ability of the command to assimilate an increased flow of information without overloading. It is considered effective when it allows the supply of material to the right person at the right time and in the correct manner, to facilitate the clarification of the panorama and support decision-making. Information is the product of a data processing management and its integral component of the war. Nowadays, in any organization, civilian or military, is given increasingly, attention to information as a strategic resource to mission accomplishment. The Navy, as a large institution that is, requires huge volumes of exchange and sharing of information with the environment with which it interacts. Similarly, NATO is also a transformational process that emphasizes the importance of sharing information using an effective informational infrastructure supported by a robust network infrastructure. In short, information management is thus the recognition that the amount of information and data from which it springs, are for the Navy an important resource and, as such, must be managed throughout their lifecycle.
