| dc.description.abstract | Todas as pessoas possuem inteligência emocional, aplicando-a diariamente em todos os domínios da sua vida, a nível pessoal, profissional, e familiar, com maior ou menor êxito. Com o presente estudo pretendeu-se investigar o nível de inteligência emocional dos polícias e o seu impacto no desenvolvimento da atividade policial. Realizou-se um inquérito por questionário a 140 polícias da Divisão Policial de Vila do Conde, do Comando Metropolitano do Porto. A maioria dos inquiridos considera possuir bons níveis de inteligência emocional para lidar com as dificuldades inerentes ao serviço policial. De entre as quatros dimensões de inteligência emocional analisadas, a avaliação das próprias emoções e o uso das emoções para facilitar o desempenho são as mais desenvolvidas por parte dos polícias, enquanto a avaliação das emoções nos outros, e a regulação das próprias emoções surgem como as que necessitam de ser melhoradas. Não se observaram associações positivas entre o tempo de serviço e as funções desempenhadas pelos polícias no aumento da inteligência emocional. Esta conclusão pode ser estendida às restantes variáveis sociodemográficas. | |
| dc.description.abstract | All people possess emotional intelligence, applying it daily in all areas of their lives, at personal, professional, and family levels, with greater or lesser success. This study aimed to investigate the level of emotional intelligence of police officers and its impact on the development of police activity. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 140 police officers of the Vila do Conde Police Division of the Metropolitan Command of Porto. Most of the respondents consider that they have good levels of emotional intelligence to deal with the difficulties inherent to police work. Among the four dimensions of emotional intelligence analyzed, the assessment of one's own emotions and the use of emotions to facilitate performance are the most developed by the police officers, while the assessment of emotions in others, and the regulation of one's own emotions emerge as the ones that need improvement. No positive associations were observed between length of service and the functions performed by the policemen in the increase of emotional intelligence. This conclusion can be extended to the remaining sociodemographic variables. | |
