A metodologia
This dissertation analyses the role of specialized new media in legitimizing video games as a cultural and social phenomenon in Portugal. Based on a theoretical review of the historical evolution of video games, the social stigmas associated with their consumption, and the way they are framed by digital journalism, this study aims to understand how media coverage contributes to the recognition of video games as a form of art and cultural expression. The methodology relied on a qualitative analysis of online publications and specialized media platforms, supported by a literature review of authors such as Jenkins, Gee, and Bogost. The results indicate a growing acceptance of video games within Portuguese cultural discourse, strengthened by the credibility of new media and the diversity of voices in the digital ecosystem. It is concluded that specialized media play a crucial role in enhancing the cultural value of video games, positioning them alongside other forms of contemporary art.
